Euro 2012 thread
« on: May 15, 2012, 09:50:08 AM »
If you are not European and the thread title wasn't hint enough, this is your cue to leave.

Also having done similar threads in the past, I know there isn't a huge amount of interest for European football. But anyway in 3 weeks the tournament begins. I will be playing a fantasy football game during the tournament. I decided on the one from uefa.com. Its free, its safe and you could win a TV or a camera or something.
http://en.euro2012fantasy.uefa.com/

If anyone else is interested, build a team and let me know. I'll set up a little FES league or something.

I shall also be using this thread to wax lyrical about England when they win and to stick the knife in when they lose.

Ichi picks:

Group A
Russia
Greece

Group B:
Netherlands
Germany

Group C:
Spain
Italy

Group D:
France
Sweden

Wildcard picks to overcome my predictions: England

Ichi's group of Death: Group B (Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Portugal)

This is fantastic, but if Ichi had bothered clicking the link, he would have seen that he needs to pick players for his team, not a bag of nations.

I'll be cheering for Spain again.
Why would you do that? They play the second most boring football on the planet after Greece. Pass-pass-wait. Pass-pass-pass-wait. Back the other way. Pass-pass-wait. Pass-Pass-roll on the floor like you have had your leg cut off. Also Torres is useless, Villa is broken, Pedro is broken, Raul is 74 years old, and they haven't really got a huge number of players to fill in up front. Puyol is also broken.

I always root for Germany for no other reason than most of my distant ancestors migrated to Canada from there.
I don't know what you're implying, but you're probably wrong.

Well, England are going to get hammered. That's my prediction. However, if they can pull their shit together, they may get through the groups with France.

Well, I just happen to be their fan, and I enjoy their fluid style of play, which involves dominating possession through consecutive passings. This, I think, strengthens their defence simply by preventing their opponents from ever touching the ball and thus making any advances. The repeated passings can also help them penetrate the enemy lines. In a way, it's like playing monkey-in-the-middle with your opponent (him being the monkey, of course), and the match between Spain and Germany in the last World Cup showed this quite clearly. Anyway, I think Tiki-Taka is beautiful football, and it's fun to watch the Spanish playing in their opponents' half for the majority of the match.

Though, I haven't watched football in a while (what I said is simply based on the games that I've watched in the last Euro and World Cup), so I don't know if they have changed some of their strategies. I'm sure you know more about them than I do.

EDIT: just wanted add a few more things.

Ok guise, the tournament starts tomorrow. If anyone wants to try to win a big TV or some football stuff enter a team. If anyone is interested we could form a small FES league.

You have to get your team done before kick off tomorrow though.

The football starts in under an hour. Greece are playing hosts Poland in the opener. Not the most exciting start, but it'll get more exciting tomorrow.

Soccer is boring as fuck. Was watching the Greece vs. Poland game then got bored of watching a bunch of old men kick a ball back and forth.

Lol. Here an American is watching sport. There is no commercial break after 2 mins to remind him that he should visit the refridgerator and eat something. This has made the American confused and angry. How the hell is he supposed to concentrate on a game for 45 mins? And without timely important messages about consumer choices?

I don't get it. I said it was boring because it's a bunch of old men kicking a ball to each other. You watch this slow paced shit for an hour for what? Maybe a single exhilarating GOOOOOOOOOOOAOOAAAAOAOAOAOAL?

lol uh huh 'old men'  ::). Think Sean would benefit from an offsides coin.

If Greece's keeper stayed on his line instead of chasing, he probably could have saved that goal. But alas, he didn't.
Btw how many frrickin Papadopoulos players are there

Terrible officiating against Greece.
Doesn't make up for them playing so terribly.

This game is slipping further and further away from them.

Its all over for Greece. Annoyingly my dream team only has one Polish player in it. It also has a Greek but as he didn't even make the starting line up, he'll be getting subbed. >:(

Well, not that any of you cared but I'm doing quite well in that fantasy football game.

At the time of posting there are 537,364 teams entered. I am ranked 8,240. To be beating almost 530,000 people is pretty good going I think.
