The inclusion of....Sex Pistols aside

Go on.

They were not a punk band but a corporate marketing tool selling disingenuous, vague and misguided "anarchist" politics on a safety-pinned t-shirt. The consumer-friendly political element certainly had an impact on so called alternative music, such that major record companies usually have at least one "political" band in their alt roster at all times, but in terms of punk rock they're pretty much a joke. Ultimately they were a pop band designed to sell a product, something which I can't reconcile in any way with punk, and for that reason I question their inclusion on a list of punk bands.

In much the same way that KISS is a really crappy version of Jimi Hendrix.

As I said, I don't like the Sex Pistols, but only for essentially the same reason I never liked the Germs; they were an untalented bunch of asshats.  But your opinion that they were not punk is certainly a new one to me.
Where did you educate the biology, in toulet?

This made me WTF. "Conservative" as a political stance means preservation of the status quo. Since the government already implements plenty of stupid taxes, how is opposition to stupid taxes a conservative stance?

Because "conservative" is frequently conflated with "right wing" in the west, had the US been founded as a socialist state the conservatives would no doubt be left wing. As I understand it, conservatives in the US see taxation as a symbol of "big government" and something that should be opposed, while here in the UK the conservatives are pro-taxation as long as the tax in question doesn't demand money from those who can actually afford to pay it.

Crudblud is right.  They're also conflating conservatism with a general sort of "rah-rah America" sentiment, as we can see by their inclusion of "Rock the Casbah," which is actually an extremely liberal song.

And they include songs that express a sense of cynicism or disillusionment with a liberal cause in there, too, like "Won't Get Fooled Again," "Revolution," and "Who'll Stop the Rain."  I think other conservatives might object to the implication that cynicism is necessarily a conservative trait.

Supes, listen to The Avalanches already.

i will

Nortt - Ligfærd (you'll probably find this one a bit weird, but you like weird, don't you?)

i do :D

Does this mean you're already familiar with Portishead's Dummy

i am <3

, Radiohead's everything else, Regina's Soviet Kitsch, and Silversun Pickups' Carnavas?

i am not

Come on, Snupes, keep reviewing.  From the list of requests, not random new ones that somehow jumped their way to the front of the line.

i will/won't

The White Stripes - Elephant: This starts amazing, gets a little less awesome for a bit but then picks up again and becomes full win again. I knew I wouldn’t be able to not love it, though. Anything Jack White does so far I love, so this is more or less expected. I’ve got their other albums on standby to listen to because I know I’ll lurv it all. I’m fairly sure Jack White is a wizard with a guitar, because his guitar bits and solos are just brilliance to my ears. My favourite songs were, at the moment, “There’s No Home for You Here”, “Black Math”, “Well It’s True That We Love One Another” and “Girl, You Have No Faith in Medicine”.

Sex Pistols: Relevant to this thread's discussion! Well, for the first several songs I kind of couldn’t stand this album. Mostly John Rotten’s voice, which is not something to enjoy. However, I don’t know if the second half of the album just got much better, or if I simply got used to his voice, because I enjoyed it quite a bit more. It’s a strange thing. Half of the album was kind of bleurgh, the other half was pretty good. The best tracks, to me, were “Submission”, “Anarchy in the U.K.” and “New York”.

Borknagar - Urd: So this was basically um awesome. I tend to really love the writing of bands Mugsy shows me like this, and I really love the vocal deliveries and the instrumentals and what I’m trying to get at is that this is an awesome album. I even like the growly voice in this one! But seriously, the eloquence of the lyricism and the awesome epicness of the instrumentals makes this a blast to listen to. I think I srsly want more black metal like this. My favourite track is “The Beauty of Dead Cities” because it makes me think of The Last of Us and it is awesome. Second is “Frostrite”, which is awesome, and next is either “Epochalypse” or “The Winter Eclipse”.

Seven Nation Army was awesome (I'd never actually heard it before but the riff was familiar right away), but I didn't think it was the album's best. :P

My biggest problem with the Sex Pistols is their lack of any serious musical talent.  I get what they were trying to do and all, but it takes more than just attitude to make good music.  At the end of the day, you have to be able to play the instruments competently.

Anyway, Snupes, there are/were much better punk bands out there.  I don't know which ones you are or aren't already familiar with, though.  Have you listened to The Clash?  Or the Ramones?

Or for some fresh Punk, try Pornography.

Everyone should give Pornography a try.

EDIT:

After reading your response to some of my questions, try Silversun Pickups' Carnavas. And try Radiohead's The Bends.

Good, good stuff!!

I have not heard either! Heard of, but not heard.

And you dare call yourself a punk?  Shameful.  Anyway, I'm not personally a huge fan of the Ramones, but The Clash released five magnificent albums, along with a sixth one that most people just like to pretend doesn't exist.  The best one is London Calling.  Add it to your list!

I would suggest their self-titled instead, London Calling is supermarket music by comparison.

For Ramones, their self-titled is probably the best option, then perhaps Rocket to Russia and It's Alive!

While we're on the subject of punk, I offer the following for your consideration, Supes:

Rudimentary Peni - Cacophony (I think I already recommended this but it bears repeating)
Crass - Stations of the Crass
Bad Religion - No Control
Dead Kennedys - Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables
Agent Orange - Living in Darkness
Bobby Joe Ebola and the Children MacNuggits - F
Subhumans (UK) - The Day the Country Died
Flipper - Album — Generic Flipper
Stiff Little Fingers - Inflammable Material

Okay, Snupes, I'm going to help you out by putting together what you're supposed to have added (>o<) to your list.  Just copypasta the following:

Mumford & Sons - Sigh No More
Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin
Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti
Rudimentary Peni - Cacophony
Patti Smith - Horses
Diablo Swing Orchestra - Sing Along Songs for the Damned & Delirious
Nortt- Ligfærd
Ahab - The Divinity of Oceans
The Fall Of Every Season - From Below
Silversun Pickups - Carnavas
Radiohead - The Bends
The Clash - The Clash
The Clash - London Calling

Some disagreement was voiced about my recommendations from Led Zeppelin and The Clash (>o<), so I just listed both albums in both cases.  It never hurts to have a more varied selection.

Now get back to reviewing the recommendations!  You're getting close to some stuff I'm actually familiar with.
