Why do we fall back to earth? Because our weight pushes us down, no laws, no gravity pulling us. It is the law of intelligence.

I have eaten literally thousands of animals during my long and industrious existence.  As a significant public figure, I feel it is my duty to substantiate my decision in this regard so that others may learn from my example.

Each time an animal is eaten its physical and spiritual constituents pass into the jurisdiction of the eater to a great degree.  All animals provide me with the calories I need to campaign and write posts, but I believe strongly that each of them brings "something to the table" in their own special way.  From foie gras, we obtain a greater affinity with the water. From rats and mice, we may gain our resourcefulness and modesty.  From the horse our swiftness of foot and so on.  I recommend a diet as diverse in the meats of animals as you can muster, your quality of life will be greatly improved by this endeavour.
"For your own sake, as well as for that of our beloved country, be bold and firm against error and evil of every kind." - David Wardlaw Scott, Terra Firma 1901

I often get the argument that we are meant to eat meat as part of our evolution. So why don't most meat eaters eat insects or their pets?

I don't care what other people eat, but the same can't be said the other way around. People often tell me I should eat meat etc... and try to force me to eat some.

Guess how much sense this makes . . . none.

If people are willing to eat meat, why are they not willing to eat things that most western societies would turn their nose up at? Such as insects, maggots etc... or animals they would regard as a pet.

That's what I was trying to say.

Because the animals in question are either not considered palatable or have sentimental value. Wanting to eat animals is not the same as wanting to eat every animal one encounters. I figured this would be obvious.

So what determines whether something is palatable or has sentimental value?

I guess I'm trying to elude to the fact that a 'society and culture' has a big influence on what we are willing to eat or not.

It's not about whether we, as an individual, think it's right to eat meat, it's whether our society thinks it is.

If you love your dog, you probably won't eat it unless you are starving. Then you'd probably cry with every doggy bite - sentimentality. Many of us do not eat insects because we think insects are gross - unpalatable.

I think it is both individual and societal.  People in many countries eat horse, but USAmericans generally do not (in fact it is illegal in Florida). That is both societal and individual. I personally would not go out of my way to eat horse, but I'd probably try it if I traveled somewhere and it was served to me.
I'm sorry. Am I to understand that when you have a boner you like to imagine punching the shit out of Tom Bishop? That's disgusting.

The reason why I don't eat meat is for the same reason you won't eat insects, I feel physically sick eating it.

But I've been told that most insects taste like prawns. So why wouldn't you eat them?

I don't know what insects taste like, and I have no desire to find out. If I lived somewhere where protein was scarce, then I'd probably eat insects. I already told you why I wouldn't eat them, they are gross.

My sister doesn't eat meat for the same reason you do not. She's always been squeamish about blood and blood veins, and she started out not eating red meat. Then one day she was eating a chicken sandwich and bit into a chicken blood vein and now she doesn't eat meat at all.
I'm sorry. Am I to understand that when you have a boner you like to imagine punching the shit out of Tom Bishop? That's disgusting.

I have eaten insects in the past.  I don't really remember any of them tasting like prawns.  Ants - I don't remember them having a flavor other than spicy.  Grubs - I don't even know how to describe the flavor.  Crickets - the roasted ones may have had a prawn like texture with a crunchy shell.  I can't remember for sure, but I don't think they tasted like prawns.  Worms (I know they are not insects) were spicy with a weird meat type flavor.

Why?

I don't really know for sure but I think it might be because I was brought up on a farm and witnessed where meat comes from and how it's processed.

The northern hemisphere.  Survival training is great.  You get to eat all kinds of stuff.

No matter how hungry I was, the worms were gross.  I don't even know what kind of worms they were.  I just remember that the flavor had kind of a black pepper taste to it.

Oh, and on a few occasions in high school, after drinking too much beer and/or liquor, I was talked into eating meal worms that my friend who kept for feeding to his reptiles.  They literally tasted like insect shit.

We always raised our own cows, but raising them ourselves made me like it more.  We didn't have  big factory farm, though. We just raised them one at a time.

Many animals are our brothers and sisters viz our evolution; why do you think humans get bird and swine flu? The DNA in many animals resembles our own. Most meat-eaters know their meal is a meal created from murder. Eating meat is no more than the ritual killing of our evolutionary brethren.

Can anyone give me a non-religious reason for eating animals?

"Murder is the unlawful killing, with malice aforethought, of another human, and generally this state of mind distinguishes murder from other forms of unlawful homicide."

Its not murder unless its an unlawful premeditated killing of a person.

As for a reason why we should eat animals, well they taste good, they are a good source of protein, and it is a completely natural part of the circle of life.

I've got nothing against people eating meat, but I just don't like the thought of eating all the blood and guts I used to see.

I can't distinguish between what I see on a plate and what it looked like while it was being processed. I just find it gross.

I think animals are tasty and should be eaten. They're just like moving plants.

I'd probably be for eating humans too if I wasn't a human. It leads to too many diseases and would open the gates for me getting eaten.

Why don't you go farther? To the logical conclusion.

They put you here in a place where you have to kill to survive.

Imagine gladiators in Rome, they forced them to kill each other to eat, for fun. That's our world, that's Nature, that's the great sadistic creation we live in and millions of idiots adore, and consider great and "perfect".

It's not my fault I'm here. Blame the One up there... Not those who eat animals, they didn't create or choose this...

Yes, eating plats damages less. But with respect to animals:

Hunting is way better and more noble and honest, the prey knows it's a prey, lives free all his life, always careful, until bang, it dies. Fast and painless, no treason, just a fair battle, well, almost fair, no lies or tricks.

But keeping herds of sheep, loving them, feeding them, and suddenly cutting their heads... seems treason and Machiavellian to me. It's disgusting, no honor.

And if you add industrial jails with vaccines and Jews with stocks options torturing animals for a few cents more...Well, I would never dare to criticize a hunter who lives in the woods.

And murder is not the question, it's the SUFFERING, the years of living in a cage for usury, it's the poison given to the poor creatures to become like hulk and grow faster, full of water and toxins so it weights more...

Plants and fungi are also our "evolutionary brethren". What should we do, eat soil and perform our own photosynthesis? What about the bacteria that live in the soil, are they not our "evolutionary brethren" also?
I'm going to side with the white supremacists.

There is no evolution in that sense.

Plants don't evolve, they don't change. All that a plant will be is in it's seed. It won't change by itself.

Have you ever seen evolution in plans or animals? No, they are fixed, done, they won't change.

We mastered husbandry centuries ago...have we seen evolution? No.

Yes... but it needs millions of years...yeah...sure...like galaxies and the distant planets... no proof, but they know it must be so...

You can mix seeds, as is done with some fruits, you can mate lions and tigers in some conditions, but that's not evolution.

Plants, fungi, they grow and die, in an eternal cycle, but they don't evolve. It's the same type of tree, the sun may be higher, more distant, the river may be closer, but the tree itself will be the same.
Survival of the fittest doesn't mean evolution or change, only that some species may disappear, but nothing will be new or created.
