Meat is Murder!
« on: May 06, 2012, 08:02:30 PM »
Many animals are our brothers and sisters viz our evolution; why do you think humans get bird and swine flu? The DNA in many animals resembles our own. Most meat-eaters know their meal is a meal created from murder. Eating meat is no more than the ritual killing of our evolutionary brethren.

Can anyone give me a non-religious reason for eating animals?

How would you present this philosophy to a lioness, as you approach her hunched over a fresh kill, her panting maw damp with fresh blood? She is eyeing you curiously as you draw near, so you had better make a compelling argument fast.

Oh look at how young and skinny he is! I want to watch Lucky Louie again but Netflix is dumb and doesn't have it on instant.

Meat is delicious and full of good fat and protein.

Wow. Worst argument for vegetarianism I've ever heard, and I have a 90% vegetarian diet for ethical reasons.

Meat in and of itself isn't murder, if an animal is raised and slaughtered properly it will have a much better life than in the wild. The problem comes from factory farms and intensive farming where animals are raised in hellish conditions before suffering through a gruesome demise. Eat less meat, especially intensively famred meat, to reduce demand and thus the number of animals required to suffer until it can be econimically viable to raise a small number of animals in free-range farms again.

You know what would be more efficient in lowering meat production than eating less meat? Stop having pets (specifically, dogs and cats).

Well, it wasn't aimed at you specifically - mainly vegetarians in general.

The notion that meat is causing everybody to become fat is preposterous, I eat a great many creatures of every conceivable sort and yet I am svelte and lean. The great shamans of old realised the principle that if one eats an animal, one gains the powers of that animal. From the cow, we gain patience and calm. From the flesh of a fish, one may become a keen swimmer. From eating ants, we become at one with our fellow man, and gain diligence and strength beyond our wildest dreams. Also with time, one may gain the ability to follow pheremone trails left by ants. I have been experimenting with this procedure for quite some time, and am becoming an expert at absorbing the powers of the animals which I am able to conquer and eat.

As a life-form with the power of abstract reasoning and investigations of the truth, it seems moral for me to absorb other animals into me so that they may do better service to the truth than they can without the power of reason. Don't think of it as the animal dying, think of it assuming a new body which has more powerful sentience than before!

Mine eat dog biscuits and leftovers. I feel we as humans waste a lot of food and I am grateful that my dog is grateful for what I can give him.
Also, pet food is not sirloin steak.

I think pet food in the US is made from what's left of the meat that humans don't consume, and also lots of corn.

Still, saying meat=fat people is patently absurd. I know of many slim omnivores and a good few fat vegetarians.

The notion that meat is causing everybody to become fat is preposterous

What really, really fucking annoys me in restaurants is that is you order a veggie alternative of anything the place will always serve you a smaller portion than the meat-eating alternative, as though every vegetarian is a health-obsessed loser.

I'm a 13 stone (mostly) vegetarian and I demand a full portion of chips with my bean burger, thank you!

I know this is a James quote, but we've known for a long while now that meat doesn't make people fat.
