Feature Request: Locked Topic Quoting
« on: May 05, 2012, 06:16:41 PM »
I don't know if anyone else ever has that problem, but I like my quotes neat. Like this:

Hello, S&C. How are you today?

It has the poster's name, a link to the topic, and a timestamp in it. How did I get it? Simple! I navigated to the post, clicked "quote", and copied the markup. Very simple, indeed, unless...

the thread is locked! >o< That leaves me with two options:

  • Waste time formatting the quote myself. It can be done, but seriously, who would want to do that?
  • Use a simple quote:
    Quote
    I am such a boring quote. :(
    Quote from: definitely not canofpepsi
I guess it's not too hard to add a name.
But the link and timestamp are very annoying.
    lol, 1969, get it?

Now, I was thinking, maybe we could do what Wikipedia does. Even when  you can't edit the article, you can still view its source. Example: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Main_Page&action=edit

Implementing this should be incredibly simple from the technical point of view, and I'm pretty sure it would make the lives of some of us much easier! Opinions?

Three, use greasemonkey. I just wrote a script for this:

Click "get quote markup" next to a post title. It's pretty crude but it gets the job done. Formatting won't be included inside the quote.

Tech team?
It was the best (first) blanket term I could think of to refer to the tech advisers/JohnD.

I'll add it to the list.
The illusion is shattered if we ask what goes on behind the scenes.
