This. He's a Machiavellian that will, if elected, generally follow conservative dogma.

Nothing wrong with being Machiavellian. But no, I think he will follow the general public opinion.

His position is to build an elevator for his four car garage so he doesn't have to drive up the hill to his $10 million dollar ocean view cottage.  An issue that plagues the everyman.  I trust his leadership to get us out of our economic depression so we can build our car elevators too.

Well, he is now, because those powerful enough to get him a shot at becoming president said he should be.

Nothing wrong with being Machiavellian.
And here we must observe that men must either be flattered or crushed; for they will revenge themselves for slight wrongs, whilst for grave ones they cannot. The injury therefore that you do to a man should be such that you need not fear his revenge.

Be it known, then, that there are two ways of contending, one in accordance with the laws, the other by force; the first of which is proper to men, the second to beasts. But since the first method is often ineffectual, it becomes necessary to resort to the second.

[A]nd in the actions of all men, and especially of princes, which it is not prudent to challenge, one judges by the result.

I respectfully disagree.

I feel like calling him Machiavellian gives him too much credit. Machiavelli was a genius demagogue who accidentally created a handbook for tyrannical leadership. Romney is a stereotypical politician whose stance is whatever your stance is. I don't really see the resemblance.

Many historians and philosophers argue that The Prince was intended as a satire of the ruling class of Machiavelli's time, not as what he genuinely believed, and that, therefore, his legacy of being remembered as an evil bastard is unmerited.

This, Machiavelli was actually a fairly decent and pragmatic bloke. The Prince should probably be read similar to how 1984 or Brave New World is read now.

Machiavelli was a flip flopper trying to get into the good graces of whomever was running things at the time. Yes, he was a decent bloke but he was still a politician.
