Affordable Care Act
« on: March 29, 2012, 01:29:50 PM »
If the Supreme Court rules against the individual mandate, doesn't that sort of kill the purpose of the entire bill? If people aren't required to buy health insurance, and at the same time, private insurers can't deny insurance to people with pre-existing conditions, then couldn't a person just wait to get sick and then buy health insurance? I personally don't think that people should be forced to buy private insurance, but at the same time, if they can't, aren't we sort of back at square one?

Yep.  It's a fuck-all.
If the mandate is struck down, it's all going to die.  That or the Insurance companies will just make a "If you're sick you must pay $5,000 a month which is what you'd pay for your treatments anyway."

And it will be struck down and I will be sad.
Then nothing will be changed in Health care for at least another decade.
The insurance companies will rejoice but stuff won't go down.
People will still bitch but nothing will change.
The economy will get better but it's doing that already.  Republicans will claim it's because the ACA got killed and take all the credit for a better economy.
We'll then go to war with Iran.
Gas prices will then hit $5.00 a gallon.
Republicans will then be voted out in the next election.

Repeat.

Is forcing people to have health insurance unconstitutional? I would think so, especially if much of health insurance is private. With a car, it is mandatory to have car insurance to drive, but you could also just choose to walk. Is there such a choice in health insurance? To stop living?

Yes.
It's called suicide.

But had they stuck with the Singe Player Universal Health Care plan that Obama actually wanted instead of compromising with the Republicans and getting "private" insurance involved, there wouldn't be a problem.

Did he ever want single-payer?  I don't remember his original plan being too different from what we have now.

But the government can force you do pay for and do numerous things, why should buying health insurance be different?

A government is like a corporation that can force you to buy its product, but just because it can, doesn't mean it should. Mainly because its products always suck.

Yeah, keep telling yourself that.

Lol, and you keep telling yourself that the rich would be able to fix everything if there just weren't so many gosh-darned taxes and regulations keeping them from being the best people around.

What does this have to do with anything? What is furthermore is you seem to be forgetting that all politicians are rich and they aren't too fond of screwing themselves over.

It has everything to do with everything because trimming away the government does away with regulations and lowers taxes.  Unless you're not for those things?

Trimming away on it? Not entirely. Adding on to it? Very much so.

You obviously weren't aware of my actual position. Perhaps you need to ask "will you elaborate on this" before making massive assumptions based on scarce remarks. Just because you listen to mass media all day long doesn't mean you need to perform their little circus show in their stead.

Excellent.  I'd ask you to elaborate but I honestly don't care.  Feel free to anyway, though, if that's what you want.

Quite, but most of us aren't celebrities. If you have a metric fuckton of money then you can afford better healthcare, but for those at the bottom (and most of the middle) of the pile, the NHS is irreplaceable.

So your irreplaceable health care is substandard?  That sucks.  You can keep your Govt health care thank you.

No, it works and is good enough most of the time for most of the people as opposed to the US system where there is a gold-star quality service for the richest, a silver-star, (basically comparable to the NHS) standard for the middle classes and a muck-star service for those who can't afford better healthcare.

Give me Atlee's legacy any day.
