Honestly, I like the current theme.

The theme is okay, but the real problem is that there is no integrated banner, or general aesthetic. This kind of look was fine a few years ago, but it's starting to look dated. There were parts of Thork's theme I didn't like (BALLOONS), but overall it looked much better than what we have. Honestly, if the balloons were burst, it was blue, and the banner text had a different font, I would be all for replacing what we have with Thork's effort. It looked a lot more professional. The Newton/Rowbotham graphic looked pretty cool.

I'd like to see John's, but Thork's offering was actually really good. I'd like a lighter shade of blue (as the dark blue is one of the problems with the current theme), and maybe a different font for the banner, but even as is, I think it looks like a big improvement on the current theme. I mean, the Newton/Rowbotham graphic looks really cool.

I actually do the graphics thing for a living, so maybe I'll take a shot at this if I can find the time in the next few days :)

If Parsifal would be so good as to get the damn profile picture working in the version I built, it could certainly be added as an option. At least its site themed.

It just needs to keep the picture in the top left small. :(

And by the way, there are no balloons anymore.  >o<

I used to hate the balloons, but they've grown on me.  And they are a reference to Vonnegut's granfalloon which is perfect for describing the society's members.  I love the balloons, can you bring them back?

Due to public demand the balloons will remain a permanent feature. I didn't really like them but you all begged and begged.

Nobody really wants the balloons. Everyone wants your theme. I want it bluer. These are true things, ignoreth the lies.

Have any of you tried editing some of the other themes we have, instead of just the current default?

I am actually working on a re-skin of the current theme, because I think the layout works quite well.  I'll look at some of the others, too :)

There is no way I can answer this yes or no and have you like the answer. It'll have to be a surprise.

I'm currently using the Celeste option.  I like the colors.  It's a much lighter blue than the abrasive default.

Here you go, re-skin of the existing default theme, it's very much work-in-progress.   I nixed the blue background in favor of a lovely parchment tone, killed the harsh gradients, de-saturated colors all over, and added some distressed celestial charts for visual interest - nothing specific enough to be recognizable, just flair.  Also, I made a shiny new transparent png logo for the header.

Yes - it's basically the same theme we have now, except with some visual interest and less harsh colors.  I'll take a look at some others as well too, if we want a layout shift.

EDIT:  I do plan on updating most / all of the icons as well, as they're still the old garish blue.  But this is sufficient for a preview I think :)
