As if riding Sleipnir out out Asgard, other Norsemen are at the ready to assist if ever called to duty.

Must locate some of the recommended Scotch whiskey, as well.

Tried a bit of Bushmills, promptly spat it out and cracked open a refreshing Coca Cola.

Can of Carling.

Went to the pub last night with some of my professors, was going for one pint of Timothy Taylor's Landlord, ended up with 7 whoops.

Oh, I love Landlord. Shame it's basically impossible to get down south.

It's my favourite beer hands down. I was working at a festival down south last year, and I mentioned it to another northern-sounding guy. Turned out he'd brought his own personal stash of Landlord for the festival and gave me a couple.

JW Blue is actually pretty good, but overpriced.

I haven't tried it. If I'm going to spend that much on alcohol, I'll just buy a single malt.

I agree 100%.  I wouldn't spend my own money on it either, especially for a blended.

Hahah well I enjoyed the Walker, but I did not have to pay for it.  Plus it was not more expensive than the other single barrels that my dad usually has laying around.

Uh, what?

Anyway, I am enjoying a fine limited-edition, cask-strength Lagavulin single malt that my local liquor store had in stock today. It is magnificent, at 57.5% abv, or 115 proof for the Americans.

I had a few coffee shots last night. Some kind of vanilla liquor and fresh coffee and whipped cream. Pretty disgusting really but they were free.

When I come home my dad is usually drinking Four roses Single barrel, which is his preferred, or some other thing that he decided to try.  Its usually 50 bucks or so for a fifth, and the Gold Label was a 100 bucks for 1.75 liters, so its actually a bit cheaper.  I'm not the biggest whiskey drinker, because its expensive, but both tasted very good, although i thought the smokiness of the Gold Label was a bit overpowering to be honest.

Johnnie Walker is a blended whisky, so it's not at all comparable to a single barrel. Saying that Johnnie Walker is cheaper than a single barrel is like saying that a Volkswagen is cheaper than a Ferrari.

Not when the retail on JW is usually higher than the single barrel, just at Costco when you buy 1750 mls its cheaper(and even then by only like 6 bucks).  Plus I really don't think its that simple.  Its a bit more like coffee than cars, some blends are done to be economical, others are done to achieve a particular flavor.

The opinion that you expressed is a bit snobbish.  Just because something is a blend does not mean it is inherently cheaper and or worse.

Yes, because it's a very overpriced, very overrated brand. You're paying for the name on the bottle, not the drink inside it.

The opinion that you expressed is a bit snobbish.  Just because something is a blend does not mean it is inherently cheaper and or worse.

I didn't mean it that way, I only meant to point out that the categories are not directly comparable. And Johnnie Walker in particular is a sub-par, overpriced blend.

Someone here should get me a Glencairn whisky glass for my birthday next month.

Stop being lazy, earn some money and buy it yourself.

I am drinking more of this Lagavulin. This time I mixed it with some water and it's turned nice and cloudy, like a non-chill-filtered whisky should. The resulting flavour is amazing.
