Here at college, it seems lots of people are now making depressing realizations. I'm finding myself playing therapist, a role which I probably suck at because it is also deeply rooted in emotions.
A friend told me that everything is hopeless because there is no meaning to anything. [/jist of it]
I contend that things
can't be "hopeless" without meaning, because hope (or lack thereof), places meaning in the result. It is inherent.
Either:
- Nothing matters
AND nothing mattering also doesn't matter.
Or:
- Things matter.
If you include "human-assigned-meaning" into an objective problem you confirm its equal validity. That is, subjective meaning is every bit as valid as objective meaning
to that person. Ironic fix, huh?
