I have a few questions to ask FEers...
« on: September 23, 2006, 10:08:51 PM »
Please, elighten me.

Why are so many FEers so hellbent on believing that the earth is flat and that there is a conspiracy with out any actual proof*that I've seen*?

What's the reason behind the conspiracy?

How come no one has ever come to the table with flat-out evidence that the Earth is flat and it effectively counters the RE belief?

To those of who believe that the bible gives proof of A flat Earth, could you explain this to me?

I am asking out of genuine curiousity and hope that any and all replies are serious and don't contain anything that would be considered illogical or insulting. I am in search of an intelligent conversation, not a bicker fest. To each his own.

You should read the forum more thoroughly before expressing your opinions.

The vast majority of people on this forum do not believe the Earth is flat - they are debating a hypothetical situation of what the world would be like if it were flat or they are argueing that the Earth is flat for the sake of the arguement.

Considering it's a hypothetical debate, nobody knows, I would hypothosise that it would be a quest for power.

Because it's a hypothetical arguement around something that is clearly not true.

I've never seen anybody argue this on this forum.

I don't think anyone is 'hellbent' on it, but if you ask, the FES will respond.

This has been covered sooooo many times in the last couple of days, please see one of the other threads on this issue.

Very few people here are religious.

I've been wondering that all along!

I asked these questions to understand the arguement and to potentially join it myself. I enjoy debating. It's best to consider all probabilities before passing any sort of Judgement. The salem witch trials should have taught us that. I do know that many of the members of this forum don't believe the Earth is flat, I've been reading the forum for a good time before I joined.

I am aware of that. I asked on the off chance that one would pass by. I have seen "bible-thumping Cristians" who are firm believers in this theory.

Even if they aren't actual FEers, some of the alleged believers in the theory will argue for it in the most ludicrous ways and I simply wanted to know why.

I don't think anyone here believes the earth is flat because 'it says so in the Bible'.  Those that argue in ludicrous ways are mostly trolls.

People at the Flate Earth Society website believe that the earth is flat?! That's crazy. Proof? Just step outside and look have a look.

If the consipiracy was common knowledge then it'd hardly be a conspiracy.

I laughed because clearly if you read my earlier comment, at no stage did I "categorise every member's beliefs".

I said the "vast majority" in responce to "why are so many FEers hellbent on believing that the earth is flat..." -

I also laughed because you brought up the fact that you're a Catholic - which can only be relevent if you actually do believe that "the bible gives proof of A flat Earth". - which is the only religious comment in this topic and I responded with - "I've never seen anybody argue this on the forum."

I never did say anyone on this forum argued that it says so in the bible. i meant that I've actually met them in person. I don't apreciate that this topic is begining to get off topic.
Why is it so hard to find a forum where one can carry on an intelligent conversation. I've only seen a handful of people here that have been willing.

If youre looking for an internet forum with more than a handful of intelligent people, then stop. There aren't any.

OK *looks outside* Well I'm in a dence urban area, so am surrounded by houses; so perhaps I shoud go to a large open space, I live in a costal city; so the nearest place is the sea. *take a bus down to the docks* *looks out into* the English channell* Well it looks round to me; that ferry coming over the horizon, mast first, kind of proved it.

Since when to ferrys have masts?  Aren't they mechanically powered?  Thus no need for wind?

At any rate, as made obvious by your observations, it is also reasonable to assume that houses cover the planet as well, following the "The earth is flat because it looks that way up close" logic.  Silly VJ.

Clearly he is lieing and you've caught him out.  More evidence that there is a conspiracy trying to tell us (in this case badly) that the Earth is round.

Sorry if got my terinology wrong, what ever the top of the boat is called, you can see a picture of it at the top of the page, here: http://www.redfunnel.co.uk/
It's the big one on the left, the top looks like a radio mast to me.

Secondly, the only actual proof that has been offered to me is the ""The earth is flat because it looks that way up close" logic"; I was simply disproving it; I've not been presented with any acutual empirical evidence to try and disprove, just hysterical cries of "It's teh conspiricy!!!".
