My PS3 does dying all the time can YOU help?
« on: October 03, 2011, 12:10:40 PM »
it warns that it's overheating over like 10 minutes then shuts off. Should i fuck about repairing it or just get a slim for £169 which i can afford but would rather spend on booze and fags.

Have you ever had this issues? Maybe you can offer advice.

I have a great solution. Throw it out and start playing games on the PC.

Lol

@monkeybradders
Have you cleaned all the vents assiduously?  Have you tried using an external fan for extra cooling?

Mine died (I suspect from over heating) and I paid Sony for a repair mainly because I wanted the particular model I had.  The repair (or replacement) has lasted about three years now but I've made sure it's well cooled.

There's another thread about this somewhere.

i have cleaned the vents using a spray duster and vacuumed them i have powered it on whilst holding eject for a self clear. I have the unit in front of a waist high pylon fan AND by a window yet it still overheats. I've a feeling i need to get in there and clean it properly but not sure whether this will work.

PS - this is my 3rd ps3 as the other 2 did YLOD so i refuse to go back to sony since they charge 150 for like for like and i can get a new slim for 169

If you're determined to open it up, there's a bunch of fix it pages on the internet.

Have you got anything else plugged into the thing?

so i took it all apart, cleaned it up and applied new thermal contact. Still says it's overheating my prognosis is a broken sensor. Time for a new ps3

btw, taking it apart was really easy, just in case anyone is thinking of doing it.

You could just leave the side off and aim a fan in there.

Why do people idolise machines manufactured in third-world labour conditions to provide mindless entertainment by multinational corporations interested only in locking you into their proprietary platform and making you buy more things at first-world cost price?
I'm going to side with the white supremacists.

It provides entertainment other platforms do not.
