Why is the female breast sexual?

Is it inherent or taught in society? Also, why? I would think that it is not inherent, since other tribes have women who go around topless and the society thinks nothing of it. It seems to be a very civilized society taboo. If this is the case, why has the breast evolved into a sexual object?

I'm still working on why any sexual aspects of a person are so taboo in the first place. Aside from being raised to consider private parts private and something to be embarrassed about if exposed in public, its nothing earlier humans weren't used to. I just have some conjecture organized from a base knowledge from my psychology classes, etc.

According to Freud, the infatuation of kissing is a derivative of latent and/or matured breast feeding instincts. He contended that both breast feeding and kissing were sexualized acts. If there's anything I learned from that awful movie "Shoot Em Up", its that some grown men have fetishes for drinking milk from lactating women.

Also, it is was of the most noticeable differences in a person's sex. While some women may be flat, and some guys may have huge tits, it still greatly defines the physically perceived gender. That would also reinforce the notions of sexual body parts.

Breasts are:

-An identifier of the female sex.

-An identifier of sexual arousal (Erect niplpes)

-An indicator that the female has healthy mammary glands and will be capable of providing milk to your sire.

-Fun to play with

All these things are reproductively important and thus we're intuitively attracted to breasts.

I think it is not so much that breasts are not sexual in some societies, it is that sexual things are generally regarded with much less of a 'taboo' aspect in those societies. As to what makes them sexual, see Chris's post.

Because we say so?

If we think it's sexual and we cover it up then it is sexual. Its the same rational as to why nudists aren't sexually aroused all the time.

It isnt even the breasts that are considered taboo.  It is the areola and nipple.  Women walk around quite often with all parts of their breasts exposed in different outfits.  Our society has decided that women cover these areas, so as a boy, we become conditioned to the fact that when a women exposes her entire breast to us, it means we are getting a sexual opportunity.

This explains why viewing them is arousing to you.  There is very little difference between what can be seen clearly when a woman bends over in front of you in a bikini, but if she pulls the bikini down, you have a conditioned response (I am going to run experiments on this with my wife to confirm my theory)

Their nakedness was only the lower half.

I've never seen an apron that doesn't cover the chest. I mean, if I google search "apron" for images, I get 20 pictures of aprons covering the chest, and one that only covers the waist down.

Yeah, and he also said that bats are birds. If I don't trust him on ornithology I'm certainly not trusting him on what gives me the horn.

The male breast is attractive to females, my guess as to why is that if you have a well-toned chest then you're physically fit and well suited for passing your genes onto the next generation.

Also, aprons should cover the chest if they're useful for anything beyond having pockets in them.

I, (well none of us are Im sure) am not a theologist, and have not read the bible in its original language.  All of the words are translations from another language.  Who knows what the exact meaning of the original word is

The word is חֲגוֹר and it does approximate apron or girdle or anything to cover the loins.
