  • Frankly, I have better things to do with my time.
Also this situation is not entirely hypothetical, as Astronauts do exist and offer all the evidence and first hand accounts you could ever want.

Cat's exist.
Therefore I am a cat.
Meow meow.
I can post first hand evidence of my catness.

I would say using the argument "It is possible that someone is lying, therefore we should assume anyone who claims a certian experience to have happened to them to be lying" (which is what you summarise there) is pretty much dismissing people automatically. I thought you guys didnt do that?
Sorunx, remember these are not people who believe in a flat earth, they are trolls who like to practice debate skills. Unfortunately, because they have picked a field with a massive amount of evidence against them (the shape of the earth), they have to find a way to dismiss vast chunks of it out of hand, and the way they do this is to claim that everyone in a certain categories are  liars, that huge amounts of scientific data have been falsified without anyone noticing and for no reason, even though people using that data in a secondary sense find it works truly for them, and that there is a massive conspiracy that feeds us falsehoods. Even then we find gaps in their claims which causes them to resort to blatant untruths, which when challenged feed back to the "you're a liar" scheme. For example:

Astronaut: "I went to space and saw the earth is a globe"
Flattist: "You are lying and I refuse to accept your first hand account"
Willmire: " I went up in a plane and clearly saw the ice wall and the edge of a flat disc"
Flattist: "Aha! Evidence the earth is flat! I accept it!"

Scientist: "I have performed the Cavendish Experiment and demonstrated gravitational attraction between two bodies"
Flattist: "You have falsified the data."
Rowboatham: "I have done a Bedford Level Experiment showing the earth is flat"
Flattist: "We accept your marvellous true data!"
If the ultimate objective is to kill Skeleton, we should just do that next.

the public can now buy tickets on a trip in to space for a few million $ now but i can't see anyone bothering to buy you guys a complimentary ticket unfortunately.

the few true FET believers will simply continue to swear black is white for the rest of their lives, but from what I can see in this forum so far the true believers are few, the vast majority of members here are just kids trying to troll.

anyway heres some nice views of the earth seen from the ISS for you to enjoy meanwhile

i cant work out which of you are trolls and which of you are trolls trying to troll the trolls, and which of you are the trolls trying to troll the trolls that are trolling the trolls.

Dad was a fighter pilot
« Reply #32 on: June 29, 2011, 04:16:55 PM »
My father was indeed a fighter pilot.  He flew F-14 Tomcats.  I asked him one day while we were out fishing "Dad what is the highest you went as a pilot?"  He replied some amount which was really high, I forget but it was high enough for me to ask my next question.  "Dad, honestly, could you see curvature in the earth from that point?"  He replied "No, you can not really see the curvature of the earth."  I'm sorry I forget how high he said, but it was high enough to where he should have been able to notice some curvature of the earth if it were indeed a sphere as stated in the nonsense sphere spinning on its axis theory.  The fact that he said he couldn't see the curvature doesn't surprise me.  The earth is not a sphere.

brain dead reply based on no concept of the sheer size of the earth.

the maximum altitudes of most fighter jets are around 15km, and the circumfrence of the earth is around 40000 km, you really think you will see curvature at that altitude? go back to school.

at LEO (low earth orbit) which is around 320 - 800 kilometers above the surface you will start to see a slight curvature as shown in these videos:

This argument is invalid. Even on a disc Earth you would see some curvature. The fact that he didn't, meant he was not high enough for either model.

OH SO CRUSHING! I can't believe the whole world has been wrong for all these years based on this irrefutable evidence!
Scepti, this idiocy needs to stop and it needs to stop right now. You are making a mockery of this fine forum with your poor trolling. You are a complete disgrace.

If you can see the curvature then you can see the edge of the disk and you would know not to go there because NASA will kill you if you do go there.

I really don't want to shuffle this to the debate forum, but I understand if the moderators feel it necessary.  I did not come here to debate (at least not to this forum), I like to understand others line of reason.

I can easily prove 100% of the claims in your FAQ to be completely false.  I can do this with empirical evidence observed by my own eyes and devices.  Also photographs can be arranged.

My question is this, will you care to listen? Or will you just accuse me as being part of the global conspiracy?

Im not a believer, but Im pretty indifferent on things so far. Judging from the type of people the flat earthers are, Im sure they will believe you if you did. But theres no way to, in fact, they should be trying to prove you wrong, not the other way around.

P.S. Im rooting for the flat earthers, I honestly hope they actually find proof someday.

The faq is merely something for newcommers to read and get a feel for whats going on here.  Many FE'ers do not agree with the faq in its entirety.  the so called answers in the fact are too short and often times incomplete.

OK, I'll bite.   What are the proofs?  I'm willing to look at them.

I'm still waiting.......

They do have "proofs" (merely deductions that need to be made based on the initial assumption that the Earth is flat) but what they lack in the way that each "proof" contradicts other "proofs" of theirs.
