Yes, there is an hda, but it keeps wanting to do something with hdb and I have no idea what.

They're making hdc, duh.  Leave 'em alone.

So I've got an old Compaq Presario Intel Celeron 700mhz, 128mb RAM computer sitting around, and I want to get it up running with a decent linux distro for my step siblings--so it needs to be user friendly.  I've already tried a few different distros, and haven't really found one I liked yet:

  • Xubuntu was slow as hell, and the wireless networking was iffy
  • Gentoo was a no-go; Live CD wouldn't get past the mounting stage
  • Puppy Linux worked fine, and installed OK, but the gui is kind of amateurish and I don't know if the kids would be able to use it very well
  • SliTaz also wouldn't work.

Any other suggestions?  I suppose I'll try DSL next, but that's about all I know of so far.

Did you post this thread on anarchistcookbook.com also?

Turns out there is only one physical drive, but all these livecds kept interpreting the zip drive as a hard drive.  As soon as I unplugged it, everything is working fine.  What the hell.

Don't like DSL.  Going to keep looking at others!
