a documentary shot in Antarctica
« on: May 11, 2011, 07:00:31 PM »
I did some lurking around and saw no thread on a documentary called Encounters at the End of the World by Werner Herzog (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Encounters_at_the_End_of_the_World). I didn't give it much thought when I saw it a while ago because I thought it sucked. The doc was shot at this place called McMurdo Station and there seemed to be quite a few people living there. What's FES's take on that?

Also, what about an experiment like this: two teams of people go to the south pole simultaneously but departing from different continents. One from S. America, one from New Zealand. If they all end up meeting at the south pole and have tea, granted the time of arrival of two teams being within reason.  Wouldn't that be helpful to proof the earth is round? Say someone has lots of money to blow, would he/she be able to do such thing?

I have never been to McMurdo station, so I have no idea as to what the population may be.

No.

In Master Lord Willmires model Antarctica is a separate continent.
This is why it has been fully explored.

The barrier (the metaphor ice wall) is very far beyond, far beyond the suns circle of light thats shines upon us.

The best ever Antarctica documentary was presented by Billy Connolly, in which he played banjo and ran around naked. Highly useful resource for FE'ers and RE'ers alike.

Willmires model has significant problems with they way things happen though.
If the ultimate objective is to kill Skeleton, we should just do that next.
