Portal 2
« on: April 12, 2011, 02:35:12 PM »
Someone has to have this pre-ordered. Only a couple of days until it's released.

How do you think it'll turn out?

I've preordered but sadly I won't be in the country when it releases.  I'll have to wait until the 25th.

I think it'll do well though the gels might make the game seem much sillier and more difficult than it should be.

As for the question, it will probably be like the last one: Short but sweet. Still, I must say that I seemed to enjoy Portal a lot less than the average person playing it, since I really didn't find the puzzles or the humour that brilliant. That said, it was a very fun game and I enjoyed it a lot.

I fall in this camp.

I have no reason to suspect it won't be as amazing as the first. However, since many puzzles are natural implications of portal functionality, they have been used to a high degree in the first one. Therefore, it is reasonable to surmise that the game will rely on additional non-portal functionality that will compliment the portals. (In much the same way energy balls have nothing to do with portals yet compliment the portal puzzles.) New tech and a more engaging plot is the most obvious way to uphold the standard without stealing too many of the same puzzles with high redundancy.

I also look forward to co-op.

Singularity looked rather good; I watched a Let's Play of it, so I have never played it.

Not sure if it's DRM.

Unless you consider any encrypted block of data DRM.

Unless you consider any encrypted block of data DRM.

Digital Restrictions Management (DRM) is a category of technologies which are intended to inhibit the use, study, modification and/or distribution of published digital works. No, not all encryption is DRM, but this is.

That applies to any encrypted data.
I encrypt a data packet to my bank with my account number.  It inhibits the use, study and modification of the data by unauthorized users does it not?

The reason it's encrypted is so that they can distribute it early without players being able to play it until it's released.  Once released it's fully decrypted forever.  No DRM.  I could copy my whole STEAM directory to another computer and play in offline mode.

Learn2Steam.

Your bank account number is not a published digital work. Or, if it is, you need to rethink your approach to banking.

The reason it's encrypted is so that they can distribute it early without players being able to play it until it's released.

This is the DRM part.
