The Supermoon
« on: March 19, 2011, 10:22:37 PM »
Doesn't look so super to me. I just came in from outside and it looked incredibly small.
If I was asked to imagine a perfect deity, I would never invent one that suffers from a multiple personality disorder. Christians get points for originality there.

It doesn't look any larger to me, really, but it definitely looks brighter.

You've been exposed to moonlight while observing it. Your perception may have been distorted.

Just a little sun left:

The supermoon is slightly orange.  Most interesting.

All supermoon:

The supermoon looks small but recommended precautions should be observed.

Can a mod delete the pictures please? Photographs of the moon are likely to be just as harmful as the real thing.

Is your display able to emit moonlight?

It seems so, since I can clearly observe the moon in those phtographs.

Is your display able to emit moonlight?

No, but theories by eminent scientists suggest that a photograph is able to capture the essence of its subject. One must exercise caution.

I, therefore, must agree with Brother Crustinator and request that the photograph be removed, for the safety of all.

While the light from the moon is small due to the photographs fortuitous size, we must surely recoil in terror at the prospect of a small child, unaware of the dangers posed, picking up his daddies bi-noculars to observe the moon more readily. Can you live with a blind child whose only words are screams of torment?

Actually I have already been posting alongside globularists for quite some time now.

Can a mod delete the pictures please? Photographs of the moon are likely to be just as harmful as the real thing.

There are far too many images of the Moon on this website already to delete them all. If you are concerned, I recommend you wear sunglasses and hijab whilst browsing the forums in future. These will protect you both from direct Moonlight and Moonlight by proxy.

Brother James, but the new visitors to the site will not be aware of the dangers of viewing the Moon even by proxy. We must think of their safety.

Can you please turn down the hyperbole a few notches?  People have been looking at the moon for thousands of years with no ill effect.

Mercury poisoning and methyl alcohol poisoning.

People have been smoking cigarettes for roughly 150 years and "experienced no ill effect". And then, suddenly, medicine has discovered that people did in fact experience ill effects. Whether or not you're a skeptic is none of my concern, but please, try to come up with a legitimate excuse to dismiss a warning, at least in public.

The photos were replaced by a description.  The original purpose of posting the evidence was to support the OP's observation that the supermoon appeared small but they will have to be more carefully documented elsewhere.

There is much more written about the moon and how it reflects light from the sun. I believe RE has this one.

My view was blocked by clouds.  I remember a few years ago the same thing occured.  It looked 15% larger if I remember correctly.  It was rather bright outside that night.

I looked at the moon and walked around outside in the moonlight for a little bit that night.  No ill effects at all.  I've looked at the moon a lot through my telescope and binoculars too.

I feel fine.

As for pictures of the moon on a computer screen being harmfull.....I laughed.   Better not look at pictures of the sun, plutonium, uranium, chernobyl, or any of the nuclear plants in Japan either.

If 64% of smokers die from smoking related causes, 36% live forever.
