Yes because that was still around a few years ago. What about the important things CPU/GPU/Motherboard. I.e. the stuff I specifically mentioned  ::)

Here's my specs then.  It may not have the flash of the newest stuff, but I doubt personal computer hardware has advanced significantly in 2 years.

Sorry my TB drive isn't as detailed on the list.  I bought it at Best Buy as a splurge item and don't feel like getting exact specs on it.  The rest I got off newegg so I had the order information.  I've also got a 1 KW power supply but that's not really relevant.

Well ok, it was great when I bought it.  Still is as far as I'm concerned.  And by the time I'm ready to upgrade again, games may actually start to surpass my current system at max settings.

Well, that's understandable, considering DA2 looks like it's from 2006.

Please tell me a game that you'd consider "high powered" so I can test it.  Preferably something with a demo.

Very nice system Dave, I just wouldn't have gone so far to class it where you did was all.

Any reason for the MSI mobo? I have a P55-GD80 myself and it's excellent  ;D

I see no advantages nor disadvantages for either of those. Unless someone can see any, I'd say choose the number/logo you like more.

Most people (after lurking for awhile) seem to agree that the HD scores better in the synthetic benchmarks, but the GTX performs better in games.... GTX it is. Thanks guys.

To my knowledge the GTX has better DX11 performance which is going to be very relevant in the next few years, so I'd go with that.

I've always stuck with nvidia. I never lost a card yet. You won't be able to tell the difference in a game anyway. Pick one that doesn't sound like a spin dryer in your computer case. That gets annoying really quickly. And check your case/mb, in case you need a low profile card or two available slots for the fan etc.

If no one mentioned this (I didn't read the thread, just the last post), SLI is not worth the monetary increase. You also do not need 8GB of RAM. And I must say, that's an odd choice of hard drive.

Other than that, I could give a completely different set of parts to use, but it'll be a fine computer.

I revamped and finsished my build the other day, I'll get on and post some benchmarks for anyone who may be interested.

My build:

Case: Raidmax Aztec ATX 619-WO (Orange) Twin MB-foldout

Motherboard: MSI USB 3.0 SATA3 6gb/s AMD 770 ATX

GPU:EVGA GeFORCE GTX470 Superclocked 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5

PSU: HEC X-Power 600W Continuous ATX 12V with dual-80MM blue LED fans

CPU: AMD Phenom II X2 BE Callisto 3.2GHz (can't wait to overclock, already have it at 3.8GHz in my own PC)

SSD: Crucial 64GB 2.5" SATA3 Internal Solid State Disk (I also got a 2.5" to 3.5" bay converter)

HDD: Western Digital Caviar Blue 320GB 7200RPM SATA3

RAM: G.Skill Ripjaw Series 4GB DDR3 1600

All this plus a Logitec MX518 1600DPI Mouse (fantastic mouse by the way, I own one myself), Windows 7 Home Premium OEM, ASUS CD/DVD burner, Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound (gonna use on my GPU and CPU, probably), and 2 x SATA3 Cables

Really excited to get it running and benchmarked.  Stayed under budget, too!

2.  Not what I've gathered, but if you feel differently, feel free to enlighten me

3.  I am indeed ignorant.  Windows has always been good to me, and my limited experience with open source OS's makes me think I don't have the time/energy to learn how to use them.

I'm curious, though, what you think would be a better solution than Windows for a gaming rig, one that's easy to use, etc. 

I've just never been as interested in the software as much as I am the hardware.
