Has this been done? Or will it work?

I'm not educated under the knowledge of FET or RET so I came here to ask if anyone has ever tried this:

How exactly are you supposed to try this?
I'm not black nor a thug, I'm more like god who will bring 7 plagues of flat earth upon your ass.

Connect a long line between two boats, then the two boats head in opposite directions.
It doesn't even have to be a line. Maybe two machines that will face directly towards each other?

And the distance traveled/length of rope will always be the same not matter which model of the earth you are using.

But on a round earth, the line would go underwater and reach deep down, whereas it would not on a flat earth.

good luck finding such a long line.

Good luck keeping that line straight.
Keeping it from sagging.
Keeping it from pulling with the current.

I will look into depth into this experiment and its feasibility when I have time and money to procure a boat to use and a suitable land spot to attach the line to.

I think its a very good experiment if done correctly.
If you ca;Dn't argue bothh sides, you understand neither

I think its a very good experiment if done correctly.

The only problem is that I highly doubt that it can be done correctly.  Like Berny said, good luck keeping the line from sagging, especially over the course of several miles.

At some point the mass of the line will affect the boat more than the boat can affect the line.

I used to warp in a 40 ton brig by simply standing on the mooring lines.  My weight was sufficient enough to move the boat.   I don't think a line strong enough will be able to be actually pulled straight after any distance.  I think looking at suspension bridges would highlight the effects.

Thinks another experiment should be thought out

This is the kind of experiment that comes from the theoretical concept of the problem, not from the engineering or scientific view of what we can feasibly measure or experiment with.

First, the angle you are trying to measure is incredibly small because Earth is very big indeed. The imperfections of the desk in front of you are by far greater than the imperfections that your string could tolerate. And the strength that the string should possess is greater than anything humanity has made. You would have to pull each end of the string with many millions of tons of force to make anything close to an acceptable measurement.

Look at simpler experiments: look at the paths the celestial objects (Sun, Moon, planets, stars) draw on the sky and check whether those paths are consistent with a hovering sky or with a round Earth. Look at whether the coordinates of places you know (that you can find with your own GPS) correspond to the "RE" maps, and correspond to a round Earth divided by parallels and meridians. All of the above has been done by the likes of Galileo, and by navigators all around the world for the last 500 years or more, even without the handy GPS signals.

What about when I said that maybe get two machines that point directly towards each other at all times? If they start pointing downwards then that means the earth would be round. But if flat they would face straight out parallel to the water.

Did you know that the origin of the word "dog" is an etymological mystery?  No one knows where it came from.  Interesting huh?!

Anyways, I eagerly await the outcome of your experiment.

I assumed you might.  Also, chron is a variant of the Latin word "chrono" which means time.  You're named Time Dog.  Sounds like an interesting movie pitch to me.  However, I was just subtly pointing out that your name is a poorly mismatched portmanteau, as it combines two words from two different languages from two different eras.  You would be more aptly named Chroncanis (or Timedog).  Please delete your account and reapply for board access.  Thank you.

Well first I would like to say that chrondog is my Dad's nickname all the way since high school and it is also my nickname. The nickname chrondog has no actual meaning because I SAY it has no actual meaning. Also, the letters "chron" happen to be the first five letters of my last name. I believe it was taken from a german last name in which the first four letters are "kran". Maybe you need to be a little less presumptuous and stop caring about it. Nice try though.

Well, according to Urban Dictionary it was "Invented in 1984 by a haggard carny. A corn dog with pieces of "Chronic" or weed dipped into the batter." so depending on how old he is I'd ask your pops about that nickname if I were you.  :P

Hrmmm, apparently it does have a meaning.  You just spent two sentences contracting yourself by explaining it to all of us.  If the future however, I would ask that you not wantonly toss around Latin derivatives like they are your personal play things.  It leads to confusion and misunderstanding.  Thank you.

Here is how I got my nickname. (Obviously a generalization of how many nicknames are started.)

Friend: Hey Chron*****!
Me: Hey!
Other Friend: Hey dawg!
Friends: chrondog! That's your new nickname!

In accordance to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nickname), a nickname is a name different in origin and pronunciation from the original name.

I wonder why, out of the 1000's of people I've seen on the internet, that you are the only person that has EVER cared about the origin of an online username. I don't think everyone spends their time looking at the origin of everyone's names. Therefore it wouldn't lead to confusion and misunderstanding. Again, nice try though.

Anyways, back to the topic :)

Firstly, your story keeps changing.  First it was your inherited nickname and now it's your nickname.  Your blatant contradictions make me directly question your integrity.  As to your ideas on tethered boats, the entire business is merely academic until the experiment is preformed.  It's fine if you lack the convictions required to carry out your propositions, but don't expect us to have the foreknowledge required to answer questions about experiments yet to be preformed.

As to this...

I wonder why, out of the 1000's of people I've seen on the internet, that you are the only person that has EVER cared about the origin of an online username. I don't think everyone spends their time looking at the origin of everyone's names. Therefore it wouldn't lead to confusion and misunderstanding. Again, nice try though

I'm sorry that you've spent the majority of your internetings dredging the lower rungs of cyberspace.  Here at The Flat Earth Society, I think that you will find a loftier tier of thinking that comes from a mind unbound by the shackles of indoctrination.  A mind freed from the oppressive constraints of a nebulous over-mind telling you what to do and how to think.  We here among the believers forge ahead into a new and exciting future not limited by the unimpressive imaginations of those that came before us and placed limits on our understanding and reasoning.  Without noble groups like us, The Flat Earth Society, constantly asking questions and forcing people to redefine the world in which they live, humanity itself would be forever trapped on a spherical world of its minds own making.

The first step into a future of understanding starts here.  Come walk with us.

According to electromagnetic acceleration theory it would change trajectory.
