New South Wales state election 2011
« on: March 01, 2011, 04:42:58 AM »
It's election time again, folks! Here in my electorate, we have three candidates running for the Legislative Assembly -- from the Liberal, Greens and Labor parties. Since voting preferentially is optional in NSW, I will simply be voting for the only candidate not part of a major party, that being Ian Hehir of the Greens.

Meanwhile in the upper house, I'll probably be giving my vote to the Australian Democrats. They seem the least insane of the parties running for this term in the Legislative Council.
I'm going to side with the white supremacists.

1 trick ponies will never win. You may as well spoil you paper if you wish to make a protest vote.

I don't wish to make a protest vote, I just don't think either of the two major parties having a majority of seats will do any good.

Liberal and Labor are pretty shit at the moment, but I'll probably end up going labor/greens again.

I'm in QLD, not NSW, but I know up here it's basically the same, I'm voting greens on everything unless I see damn good reason to trust either of the main parties

Just voted about two hours ago. Went for the Socialist Alliance in the Legislative Council, with Australian Democrats and Greens as second and third preferences, respectively.

For the Legislative Assembly, I voted for the Greens, Labor and Liberal candidates in my electorate, in that order. I didn't give my fourth preference to the only other candidate, from the Christian Democratic Party, as I'd rather make a null vote than give them one.

I find it very frustrating that when Labor fucks up, everybody runs to Liberal. What about the other 12 parties running in this election, not to mention the Independents?

You can't expect an entire state of millions of people to vote for parties they likely haven't heard of, don't know their policies or are just plain wary of the inexperienced holding power.

It just comes down to too many people being stupid; "WELL THAT MINORITY PARTY WILL ALWAYS BE A MINORITY SO I WON'T VOTE FOR THEM".

But if you vote for them, and others do likewise, then they will become a major party.

What then?

It seems pretty self centred to call people stupid because they don't support a minor party that you might support. What about the millions that support major parties because they have policy they believe in?

Yes, the Conspiracy would like to me come out of hiding and start making public addresses so their penguin snipers can "take me down". And they'd be able to blame it on some lone nut hidden in the bushes.
