I believe in determinism and causality.

And I accept the illusion of free will, so the fact that it doesn't exist doesn't bother me.

In a way, I suppose.  They're free to do whatever they want inside the boundaries of the programming of the matrix.  There's actually more freedom inside the matrix than outside, since you certainly cannot fly outside the matrix (as an example).

I'm not completely sure, but didn't that only apply when you realized the confines of the construct? Meaning that once you realize what the matrix was, you then had the ability to bend those rules?

Because one of those subconscience choices was accepting the construct and rules given in the matrix environment, and thus if you didn't accept the construct, you didn't accept the rules.

The "super powers" aside, you are still free to do whatever you please inside the matrix.  It might be an illusion, but your choices still affect your life no differently from outside; like choosing to go to college and get a higher education, or flipping burgers all your virtual-life.
