It's because of their sexual preference. Because of DADT, there were officially no homosexuals in the military.

What does sexual preference have to do with showering?

Have you? lol

You still haven't explained how men showering with men is discrimination, or what sexual preference has to do with it.  Showers are for showering.  If someone gets a peek at your dong, I'm sure it won't be the first dong they've seen.

Let me explain it more simply so you can understand it then. If I were to take a shower with someone I was sexually attracted to, I'd probably want to have sex with her. Can you not see the implications of that?

Nothing. But allowing homosexuals to shower with other men and not allowing heterosexual men to shower with women would be discrimination.

If you're sexually attracted to someone, don't you want to have sex with her whether you shower with her or not?

Hence the separation of men and women in the armed forces. If this wasn't the case, everything would be co-ed.

You never explained how it is discrimination in the first place.  Where is the adverse action against a group or individual?  Men are still showering, women are still showering.  The reason men shower together, and women shower together (in these institutionalized situations) is because they have the same sexual organs.  It's not about having sex, or being aroused, it's about getting washed up.

But the coalition-building has also led to some odd cultural exchanges. Chief among them has been getting foreign officers used to the Swedish habit of socializing with little or no clothing in the warship?s sauna.

During off-duty hours, the sauna is at the heart of socializing on the ship. Spanish, German and Norwegian officers meet their Swedish colleagues there after long days in the Indian Ocean searching for pirates, responding to their attacks and planning escorts for ships.

Of course, in the waters off the sweltering Somali coast, sailors can work up a good sweat by simply doing nothing. Temperatures often hover around 37 C.

Taking a steam together is an essential way of getting to know someone in much of Scandinavia, said Mika Raunu, a sailor in the Finnish navy. It?s in the same tradition of Scandinavian egalitarianism that sees officers sharing rooms with lower-ranking sailors.

It also has led to a few cultural misunderstandings.

Lt. Cmdr. Carl Sjostrand told of a Swedish captain who invited a U.S. admiral to meet his senior officers after a formal ship?s dinner. The American was led down to the sauna in full dress uniform ? only to end up shaking hands with a line of sweaty, smiling and naked Swedish sailors.

Like all facilities, the saunas are used by both men and women, and the Swedish military does not segregate living quarters or bathrooms.

Other countries have adapted why cannot the US get with the times?

They do not go hand in hand.

Anyone with a normal sex drive knows that.  That is pretty much proven on how many European countries view North Americans as a silly repressed culture.  And to say the US military cannot adapt....

Working with foreigners, including small numbers of Singaporeans, French, Brits and Slovaks, means the Vilseck, Germany-based Dragoons follow different rules from what they would at an exclusively American base. For example, male and female soldiers at TK share latrine and shower blocks.

?That was a little strange at first,? said Staff Sgt. Daniel Poremba, 28, of Norfolk, Va. ?But the Americans, both female and male, adapted to it pretty quick.?

I think you do not give enough credit to the US soldiers and they're ability to adapt.

Sorry, but I've gotta jump back in and bring up the co-ed showers of the Terran army's mobile infantry. They functioned well enough to defeat the arachnids of Klendathu, so it must work out alright in the end.

But what about all the other armies that allow gays in the military?

Quote
Russia

Before 1993, homosexual acts between consenting males were against the law in Russia,[36] and homosexuality was considered a mental disorder until adoption of ICD-10 in 1999,[37] but even after that military medical expertise statute was in force to continue considering homosexuality a mental disorder which was a reason to deny homosexuals to serve in the military. In 2003, a new military medical expertise statute was adopted; it said people ?who have problems with their identity and sexual preferences? can only be drafted during war times.[38] However, this clause contradicted another clause of the same statute which stated that different sexual orientation should not be considered a deviation. This ambiguity was resolved by the Major-General of the Medical Service who clearly stated that new medical statute ?does not forbid people of non-standard sexual orientation from serving in the military.?[39] Thereby, as of July 1, 2003 (2003 -07-01)[update], homosexual people in Russia can serve in the military.

Thousands of gays were forced to resign from the military since DADT was enacted.  Perhaps you should read up on it a little.
DADT didn't change anything, gays could serve before it if they weren't open about it.  all DADT did was say it was ok to serve as long as you weren't open about it, people had already been doing it.  so anyone who has resigned due to DADT have done so because they chose to out themselves.  maybe you should read up on it a little bit too.

WTF? Are you pretending to be this stupid, or do you really believe gays were allowed to serve in the military prior to DADT?  Also, "chose to out themselves"?  srsly?

Here is one article (I'm not sure if you allow yourself to read things not provided by FOX and Friends, but I can hope) http://www.newsweek.com/2010/09/27/gay-vets-who-want-to-return-to-the-military.html
try reading what i said again, they could serve before if they weren't open about it.  many people gay people served before DADT, they just didn't let it get out.  instead of trying to say i'm stupid maybe you should check your reading comprehension skills, they appear to be lacking.
