"The Boondock Saints" was a terrible movie

It really was.  I don't understand why so many people on the Internet sing its praises.  I think it's a perfect example of what a Tarantino movie would be like if Tarantino had absolutely no talent or style.

Also, I recently watched the documentary Overnight.  It's about the rise and fall of Troy Duffy, the guy who directed The Boondock Saints, absolutely nothing for ten years, and then its equally shitty sequel.  It's actually a pretty good watch, and I'd recommend it for anyone who wants to know why Duffy dropped out of the public spotlight so soon after he entered it.

I didn't think it was terrible, but I didn't think it was anything special either.

It had a bad plot, a bad script, bad acting (with the exception of Willem Dafoe), and even a bad soundtrack.  It's an idiot movie.  Basically Twilight for frat boys.

Im in agreement on peoples Ops of that movie.. Ive been up in the air on that one for years.. it wasnt great.. but, it wasnt shit either.. I own it so i guess i should bitch too much.. but,  honestly the second one: Is total shit.. and was completely unwarranted.. not sure why they bothered.. ending up dragging down the first one a bit for me..

To criticize The Expendables for being a silly movie would obviously be ridiculous, as that was clearly the intention.  It was a throwback to action movies of the 1980s, when the quality of films was roughly calculated by multiplying how badass the hero was by the body count.

However, The Boondock Saints wasn't an action movie.  It may have been marketed as one after it was made, but it was actually just a crime film, clearly influenced by the successes from Scorsese and Tarantino.  There was very little actual fighting or combat (and what action was there was constantly being interrupted by dialogue and flashbacks), rather, it was mostly just stylized executions, as in, a guy points a gun at someone else and shoots him.  That's not an action movie.  So criticizing The Boondock Saints as being mindless and nonsensical is a very valid point to make.

It was definitely entertaining. Anyone who says otherwise doesn't know what entertainment is. Whether or not it can be considered a good movie however is up for debate.

This is a funny example, because I honestly didn't think that the story of Twilight was that bad. It was the bland characters, crappy acting and horrible dialogue that made it bad. The girl-meets-boy story and the love triangle with supernatural elements in themselves aren't bad concepts, even though they're nothing new. I postulate that if Twilight was done right, it would have been good.
