The US government shut down SETI?

Great news. WikiLeaks can keep us updated.

As Pluto is only 3100 miles away, this makes the spaceship quite small, it must therefore make the occupants tiny.

Unfortunately, in their native tongue, this was the most appalling insult imaginable, so the two opposing battle fleets decided to settle their few remaining differences in order to launch a joint attack on our galaxy, now positively identified as the source of the offending remark. For thousands of years the mighty starships tore across the empty wastes of space and finally dived screaming on to the planet Earth - where, due to a terrible miscalculation of scale, the entire battle fleet was accidentally swallowed by a small dog. Those who study the complex interplay of cause and effect in the history of the Universe say that this sort of thing is going on all the time.

I've seen enough movies and TV shows to know that when the aliens arrive, they won't be friendly. I think FES should start a resistance to fend off the invasion.

I'll handle the snacks and soda. The rest of you can bring the weapons and ammo.

I can handle the snacks and soda much better if you bring them. I keep them nice and cool, and the alcohol can go in my brain area so it stays chilled!

Chapter 31

It is of course well known that careless talk costs lives, but the full scale of the problem is not always appreciated.

For instance, at the very moment that Arthur said "I seem to be having tremendous difficulty with my lifestyle," a freak wormhole opened up in the fabric of the space-time continuum and carried his words far far back in time across almost infinite reaches of space to a distant Galaxy where strange and warlike beings were poised on the brink of frightful interstellar battle.

The two opposing leaders were meeting for the last time.

A dreadful silence fell across the conference table as the commander of the Vl'hurgs, resplendent in his black jewelled battle shorts, gazed levelly at the G'Gugvuntt leader squatting opposite him in a cloud of green sweet-smelling steam, and, with a million sleek and horribly beweaponed star cruisers poised to unleash electric death at his single word of command, challenged the vile creature to take back what it had said about his mother.

The creature stirred in his sickly broiling vapour, and at that very moment the words I seem to be having tremendous difficulty with my lifestyle drifted across the conference table.

Unfortunately, in the Vl'hurg tongue this was the most dreadful insult imaginable, and there was nothing for it but to wage terrible war for centuries.

Eventually of course, after their Galaxy had been decimated over a few thousand years, it was realized that the whole thing had been a ghastly mistake, and so the two opposing battle fleets settled their few remaining differences in order to launch a joint attack on our own Galaxy - now positively identified as the source of the offending remark.

For thousands more years the mighty ships tore across the empty wastes of space and finally dived screaming on to the first planet they came across - which happened to be the Earth - where due to a terrible miscalculation of scale the entire battle fleet was accidentally swallowed by a small dog.

Those who study the complex interplay of cause and effect in the history of the Universe say that this sort of thing is going on all the time, but that we are powerless to prevent it.

"It's just life," they say.

The movie version of Hitchhikers is actually pretty good.

It captures well the Adams-style comedy. Not surprisingly, as Adams himself was writing the script. Before he dropped dead, that is.

I refuse to believe that. Frankly it's full of useless plot points as well as less humerous dialog like the quote above.
Plus the rake scene..... *Shudders*

If Adams himself rewrote his own work like that then I will weep for a lost talent that died before he did.

Thank ADAMS!

I would have also accepted something similar to the radio shows.
Adams had a talent for taking seemingly random events and tying them together.  That movie did not.  It took seemingly random events and made them worthless.  Not even for comedy reasons either.
Take the sperm Whale.
That was a completely random creation that wouldn't appear to have any merit or meaning yet it allowed the cast to get into the planet by creating an opening when it crashed.
The bowl of petunias was also random, but he puts that together in the 3rd book (oddly) with the very angry spirit.

http://www.theweeklyconstitutional.com/news/we-cant-explain-it/704-3-mysterious-objects-discovered-coming-right-at-earth
Quote
An Astrophysicist from SETI has announced that he had made a rather startling discovery out on deep space...

Three of them, to be precise...

Astrophysicist Craig Kasnov has announced that he has discovered the large objects out in deep space that seem to be making a B-line for the Earth. He (as well as unnamed SETI scientists working on the project with him) estimates that at the rate that they are traveling, these objects should be arriving within Earth's vicinity by mid-December, 2012... Right around the same day that the Mayan calendar ends, said to mark the end of a human epoch and the return of Quetzalcoatl.

I don't know about you, friends, but my skin has goose bumps.

If this is true...

But don't base your sentiments on my reactions to this news... Have a look for yourself.

Follow this link to Skymap, load in the coordinates and see for yourself:

Coordinates

19 25 12 -89 46 03 - the first large object
16 19 35 -88 43 10 - a cylindrical object
02 26 39 -89 43 13 - the object as a circle

Due to the direction of their approach, Kasnov says that they will never been seen from the Northern Hemisphere, but that in the near future the three objects will be visible to residents in the Southern Hemisphere with the aid of only a decent telescope. It's because of that, Kasnov feels, the attempts that will be made by NASA to try and cover up the existence of the objects will end up failing.

Shit just got real  :o

Yeah..

If it was Aliens, aren't they going a bit too slow, and being a bit obvious? Unless their lifetimes span centuries and they have no logistical problems, I doubt it's actually an alien spaceship.
