How many Flat Earthers are there? How many members does The Flat Earth Society have?

Members of FES are not necessarily people who believe the earth is flat.

Members of FES are not necessarily people who believe the earth is flat.

Why would anyone become a member of FES if he/she doesn't believe that the Earth is flat?

Based on history, many people join organizations just to have a laugh at the organization. Please reference: Fogo Island page in a Canadian landmark book.

To date, the Flat Earth Society has 189 members (either 'Friends of the Flat Earth' or 'Associate Members'). As for the number of 'real' FE'ers on this forum, any answer is likely to provoke argument due to spurious accusations from RE'ers. However, personally I would say there are at least 12 people on the forum who genuinely believe that the Earth is flat.

As one of those members, when do I get the member thingy on my forum thingy?

As for why I would join if I do not believe the Earth is flat, because it is an amusing organization that does, in a bizarre way, promote critical thinking skills.

Yeah, they sure fucked you out of $6, Horatio. You probably didn't get anything in return, let alone $6 worth of goods.

Oh, you just have to ask and send me on your membership number. There's a topic about it here:

http://www.theflatearthsociety.org/forum/index.php?topic=35515.0

but I've sent you a PM about it anyway.

My guess would be there are about 2 people on the forum who actuially believe the earth is flat, due to mental problems, and about another 9 (including Willmore) who pretend they believe its flat for teh lulz.
If the ultimate objective is to kill Skeleton, we should just do that next.

I do not believe that the Earth is flat "for teh lulz", however comforting such a notion may be to RE'ers.

I am curious about the worldwide population of FEers so statistics relative to the population and the site stats can be used to determine a reasonable number.

Variables for the calculation:

1. World population 6,800,000,000.

2. Number of world internet users 2,000,000,000.

3. World population not on internet 4,800,000,000

4. CIA World Factbook of world?s population below 15 years of age is around 27%.

5. World population not on internet adjusted for over age of 15 - 3,504,000,000

6. Number of site members 14661

7. Yearly hits to TFES 300,000 (est.)

8. Fraction of world internet that has visited TFES .00015

9. Fraction of flat earth believer per site stats. (1/14661) = .0000682081713

10. Fraction of TFES visitors that become members 14661/300,000 =.04887

11. Number of world internet users that haven?t visited TFES 1,999,700,000

OK down to the basics.

FE internet population who haven?t visited site 1,363,958

FE world population not on the internet  2,390,014

FEers worldwide 3,753,972 (does not include applicable TFES members so this number will be higher). This is only an estimate and is probably way too low so I will double check the numbers.

Presumably you have also not factored in people from the ancient world, many more of whom are also Flat Earthers.

You are correct.  This only represents the current population.  Thank you for the clarification. The number is indeed much higher.

Ummm...  How many of those 14,661 site members do you suppose are RE'ers (like myself) who are here for the debate?

One of many, perhaps, but that did not skew where your participation fit into the equation. Total members were required to determine the percentage for one FE person (#9).

Irrelevant. I believe that the Earth is flat, as I have stated many times. I have been on this forum for years, and have a mini-collection of flat Earth literature and resources. I run our Twitter page, and do a lot of stuff on the Facebook page too. My dedication to the Flat Earth Society and Flat Earth Theory is obvious, and my beliefs should not be in question.

How on earth is it "irrelevant" in a topic about how many flat earthers are there, where I merely seek to enlighten the OP about the finer categories of the flattist community?
BTW using the phrase "my beliefs should not be in question" on a site whose aim is to do eaxctly that to 99.999% of people in the world is quite ironic, don't you think?

But you're not "enlightening" anyone. You are simply making spurious claims which you cannot substantiate. The precise wording of said claims is irrelevant.
