All countries have issues related to homosexuality, but I am proud to say that Sweden has come a long way in recognizing gay rights, though we of course do have a fair bit to go, especially in combating social factors, prejudice being among the biggest problems.

There are a lot of homophobic assholes everywhere.  In the US I think they are more likely to be in a position of power.  Or at least able to support their positions as a homophobic asshole and stay in power.

So very true.  Unfortunately religion will likely always disapprove of homosexuality.  And we all know how powerful the Church is (in society and in our government).

our foreign minister (germany) is homosexual and married his life partner a few weeks ago. there are always some bad jokes around but the majority of people doesn't care about his sexual orientation. i guess we're quite liberal when it comes to homosexuality

Actually within Western nations I think the US is the only major power that does not allow openly gay persons in their forces.

There are countries where they don't even know how many people are gay. That is because being gay is about as important as whether you like brunettes or blondes. Don't brag about your country when it is still relatively in the dark ages on an issue.

Honestly, most people who are actually bigoted against homosexuals over here are either elderly and grew up with it, or live in rural societies where religion is all that matters. I didn't judge, I just told you to stop bragging. I see no reason to brag about how my country treats gays because that is a ridiculous thing to be proud of. I on the other hand treat them pretty much the same as anyone else. So yes, I do live in a place where gays are accepted, it's called my mind. Try being less close minded biggot.
