How do you tip?

When you go out to eat and/or drink, how much do you normally tip your server/bartender?

I never tip less than 20%, and if I spend more than $30, I normally leave at least $10.

I only make $3 an hour bar tending.  I often wonder if the people who stiff me know how little I make...

Man, tipping is one of the weirdest systems I know of. We obviously don't have tipping in Sweden, since we're socialist bastards who respect the rights of bartenders and waiters/waitresses to earn an honest living.

I'm in Louisiana.  The minimum wage here for a server is $2.13 an hour.  Overall, it's $7.50 an hour.  Though, our cost of living down here is much lower than most other places in the country.

I tip 10-20% for good service.
In the casino I tip more for a good win. I also tip if i lose.

Wait...who do you tip at the casino?  I wasn't aware that was something you do....

The dealer, the waitress, the cashier, the receptionist, the car jockey, the doorman.
But especially the dealer.

15% by default, 20% if the service is good. I never tip less than 15% unless you're an asshole.

Not necessarily.  If you can't prove you didn't make enough to earn minimum wage, the employer can dispute it and you're SOL.

Same here, never less than 20%.  At my regular bar I give them even more.  It's good to establish a relationship, then you get the hook ups.

Minimum wage in England is ?5.93. Americans get fucked over badly.

Oh yeah.  If I'm a regular somewhere, and have a usual server...I never tip less than 30%.  I've left $35 tips on a $70 check before.

Well with Ontario and I believe it is with most of the provinces, there is a minimum wage for servers that is less than the general minimum wage, but it is not that different.  Also employers don't have to make up the difference.
Not that $7.25 sounds that great, even with the exchange rate we have.  I was making more than that washing cars more than 15 years ago.

I usually tip about 10%, unless I'm in America for dinner, then I tip 20%.  Here in BC, minimum wage is the same for everybody, and I think it's $9/hr.  My fiancee makes $9/hr at any rate, and she's a server.

Lol. Waiters and waitresses easily can pull 20 dollars an hour here in america working at an iHop. I watched a server make 35 dollars an hour tonight.

Now these waitresses are doing a lot of work to get said pay, but if you are willing to work hard the tipping system pays much better than the non tipping system.

I make $2.5 an hour bartending, but what I make in tips is more than what I can find using my degree (computer infomation systems). For now, at least, I'll continue letting my degree collect dust as I get dickheads hammered for a living.
