My PS3 just did Yellow/Red Light of Death !!!!

Is it me, or does this have nothing to do with proprietary software.  A yellow/red light is most likely a hardware error, isn't it?

Yes, just as when the array of a million coloured lights in front of me behaves in unexpected ways, I always blame the hardware.

I imagine that would depend on the specifications for the million coloured lights.  But like I said "most likely."

Besides, its not like non-proprietary software is without fault.  It has not been shown in any way that this would not happen or even happen less often with free software.

In fact, if one were to hazard any kind of educated guess, it  happens more often in this situation.

So what has happened is that the super heated solder stuff has cracked on the board. There are two fixes for this.

1) take playstation apart remove board and heat the solder with a heat gun that powers to at least 700c .
2) Wrap it in a towel and run a hairdryer into the towel until it smells !!!!

Both methods are intended to melt to solder and allow it to reset uncracked.


Oh, or pay £100 and get a refurbed one tomorrow with a new 12 month warranty from Sony.

Of course, theres no mod-chips for PS3, so it's kinda useless to open it for anything else. That's sad.
