Airplanes?
« on: August 13, 2010, 12:03:37 PM »
1) If I get in a plane, and go East, if I keep going East long enough why do I get back to the place where I started?
2) Why has no one been to the other side of the planet?
3) Why are there no pictures of the edge of the planet?
4) Why has no one fallen off the edge of the planet?
5) How do you explain Eclipses, half moons, full moons, and things of the sort?
6) How does the sun orbit the planet?
7) How does the moon orbit the planet?
8} If we are constantly going faster we would hit the speed of light, then exceed it.

You could simply just ask them for the circumference of their FE to realize they can't answer any of the above without invoking magical objects, circular arguments, or conspiracies.  This site is largely a play on ignorance, so keep that in mind ;) All I ever need is a time, speed, and distance calculation to determine the falsity of it all.

BTW, if they actually tracked the moons orbit, it would be completely incompatible to FE  8) But don't be surprised when they attempt to suck ya into circular baseless logic.
FE T-shirts = Profit = conspiracy = ideological cult in the making = teaching stupid = paranoia = nut case. Any questions?

its says right in there circumnavigation is still possibly because the lines of latitude still function the same with the north pole being in the center. so please read the faq next time

Please understand that the FAQ doesn't really answer much of anything. There are so many versions and claims and even excuses that the FAQ is basically just something FEer use to hassle newcomers over. You can pretty much count on anytime you take an answer from the FAQ that you will hear that the FAQ is not right.

For example, John Davis will talk about the UA as though it's true until someone shows him that it's false. Then he'll tell you that doesn't matter because he's on record as saying that he doesn't believe in the UA.

Another fine example is Tom Bishop's careful entry in the Wiki about the height of the Sun. If you apply his logic correctly, you get clear evidence that the Earth is not flat. Then parsec will chime in with a ridiculous cartoon claiming that light doesn't travel in a straight line from the Sun to the Earth. Basically, FET fails and the FAQ just speeds up the process.

Basically that's just a trick. It requires the pilot to steer along the line of latitude and in some models, such as the one Wilmore support, travel over twice as far. Of course, FET can't describe the reason the pilot would do so or how they manage to arrive on time, but that's a common failure of FET here.

Wrong. My post also addressed how inanely FET describes the return to same location. Adding the observation that it can't explain something else, such as the time required differing, is adding to the debate and certainly relevant.

1-7 dont ask FETishist, they cant answer.

for 8, this indeed is not true. we would, how ever much we accelerated over whatever great amount of time, never exceed or even reach the speed of light relative to anything.

FE answers are usually...

1) If I get in a plane, and go East, if I keep going East long enough why do I get back to the place where I started?

Conspiracy magic.

2) Why has no one been to the other side of the planet?

Conspiracy stops them.

3) Why are there no pictures of the edge of the planet?

Conspiracy stops anyone trying.

4) Why has no one fallen off the edge of the planet?

The conspiracy robot penguins kills anyone bvefore they fall off the edge.

5) How do you explain Eclipses, half moons, full moons, and things of the sort?

Sky magic. One might very well ask "what is an egg yolk?"

6) How does the sun orbit the planet?

It floats.

7) How does the moon orbit the planet?

It floats.

8} If we are constantly going faster we would hit the speed of light, then exceed it.

You can't exceed the speed of light.

Based on the FAQ:

1) If I get in a plane, and go East, if I keep going East long enough why do I get back to the place where I started?
A: You need to have evidence for this to be true. Also, define "straight." Remember, the northern point on the compass is pointing toward the center of the Earth. If you follow your compass due east or due west, ending up at the same point you started from, you have just gone around the world in a circle. Thus, circumnavigation is possible on FE.

2) Why has no one been to the other side of the planet?
This isn't answered directly, but I'm guessing the Ice Wall gets in the way.

3) Why are there no pictures of the edge of the planet?
I've not seen an answer to this. The general reply is "Read the FAQ". There is also a model that suggests the Earth is infinite, so obviously you won't find the edge. And pictures are never considered to prove anything here.

4) Why has no one fallen off the edge of the planet?
Ice Wall. Duh.

5) How do you explain Eclipses, half moons, full moons, and things of the sort?
(From the question about Lunar Eclipses.) A celestial body, known as the antimoon, passes between the sun and moon. This projects a shadow upon the moon.

6) How does the sun orbit the planet?
Look at the 3rd post on the FAQ, and there's a diagram http://www.theflatearthsociety.org/forum/index.php?topic=1324.0

7) How does the moon orbit the planet?
Didn't see an answer for that on there... We both need to lurk moar.

8} If we are constantly going faster we would hit the speed of light, then exceed it.
That's not a question.

However, maybe this (from the FAQ again) will answer your non-question:

Q: "In the accelerating Earth models, how does one reach terminal velocity?"
A: Once the acceleration of the object is equal to the acceleration of the Earth, the object reaches terminal velocity.

Please learn the difference between spheric coordinates and circular coordinates. You argument is false, and once again shows the amazing ability at either being a total failure at general mathematics or intentionally ignorant.  You will not get the same longitudes and latitudes.. Especailly considering your precious FAQ tries to give the Earth a 78,226 mile circumference with 486 million sq miles of area vs Earths actual 24,900 circumference with 196 million sq miles of area.. Oh yeah, your FE magically uses RE's circumference as your magical diameter lol.. What a Joke!

Time distance and speed is your friend:)

 ;D
1) Since a compass isn't the only navigational aid use in modern flight, this answer is woefully inaccurate. Furthermore the distances involved and time required to complete the flight based on the various models quickly lead to the conclusion that FET is false
2) Not all models believe in a finite FE or an Ice Wall. The FAQ's answer to these points is misleading.
3) Not all models have an edge and some that have an edge imagine a conspiracy, a natural barrier, or both that prevents them from proving their theory. Of course, the most likely reason would be that the Earth is a sphere and has no edge.
4) See #3.
5) Not all models believe in the shadow object. (The anti-moon is usually the invisible Moon that just happens to orbit opposite the Moon to create the second high tide.) There is no reason to believe that the shadow object exists or that it causes lunar eclipses.
6) The Sun does not orbit the Earth in the Kepler Universe. It magically floats above the Earth in a prescribed motion. There is no reason to believe that this is true.
7) See #6.
8) Oddly enough, Lorenz showed that velocities near the speed of light don't add in the standard sense. You can never reach a velocity equal (or greater than) c. Please reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lorentz_transformation
@Tea.: No, terminal velocity is totally unrelated to Question 8. Please reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terminal_velocity

Where I've given an answer assuming we're talking about the first map in the FAQ, with the Ice Wall, I've used that one because I thought it was the most popular among FE'ers. Which is about 10 people. Yeah.
