Does anyone believe the Earth is flat?
« on: August 15, 2006, 05:33:17 PM »
Or is this forum filled with people arguing the world is round when in fact there isn't anyone arguing that the world is flat, all it has is people pointing out the flaws in the round Earth arguments?

So is there anyone here who will step forwards as a believer in a flat Earth?

TheEngineer, CrimsonKing, Astantia, Dogplatter, Dionysos, and Erasmus. I think that's the full list.

I argue that the earth is flat too.  Dysfunction doesn't like my arguments, though.

My 'belief' in flat earth theory is:

1.)  There exists a FE model that can accurately provide an explanation for every natural phenomenae occuring in the RE model.

2.)  Whether or not this model is *correct* is irrelevant, as there is a possibility that it *could* be correct.

3.)  This model has not been created yet, and I would love to be able to refine all of our theories in order to help create this model of 'alternate' physics.

Also, where are the mods?

Well, laugh if you wish.  Nevertheless, they are my theories.

Regardless, I am an accomplished academician well versed in the doctrine of flat earthology and there has never been a claim made by a "roundie" that I have not been able to provide a counter theory or explanation.

So please, I encourage further questions so that we may all have a greater understand of this great disc that is the planet earth.

I may have to bow to your superior intellect here, my good man, as I'm not sure that I follow your question.  When I think of retrograde planet motion I think of a planet with a disc moon.  The moon, instead of circling perfectly overhead, goes backward against its original trajectory for awhile before continuing forward.

So please elaborate if my understanding is incorrect.

The planets farther from the Sun than Earth appear to move in zigzags, like this:

This is easily explained if the Earth is also orbiting the sun- since the Earth is closer to the sun, it orbits faster, and overtakes the slower-orbiting outer planets, thus causing them to appear to switch direction in the sky.

why have you never been to the edge?, plz refer to my Trip post if necessary.

and no retrogade planet motion is when a planet is moving in one direction then double backs on itself for a small period in a cyclic pattern as to appear to be going in reverse for a short while then continues on its original course.

pusher particle clouds in the upper atmosphere cause the planets to double back over their original trajectories.

youll see a one minute time difference in the post, i assure you it was probably less, a matter of seconds infact.  Do not worry however, i am not trying to undermine your knowledge of planatery motion, but i too was just as enthused to correct Dr. Frederick Osseldorf who is no doubt an accomplished academician

Ah yes... I remember working on this theory in graduate school.  Quite simple, actually.

Of course you will remember from my prior theories that the earth rests solely upon a series of turtles, ad infinitum.  I'm afraid that said turtles are ultimately responsible for this phenomenon as well.

The Greeks actually knew how the Earth was curved, and you can see it too. Do this: buy some binoculars or a telescope and go to any port where you can watch the ships.

Now: pick a ship leaving port and heading off for the horizon. Now, watch as it disappears, as if it was going down a hill. This is because of Earth's curve-figure it out.

Oh, and by the way: I suppose you've never actually been to the south pole? Despite the fact that we've been all over the globe, and should have long ago seen this mystical ice wall...But, no pictures, no nothing. Just your good faith. THAT IS IT.

You can, indeed, start in North America, take off in an airplane going South, stop over in Antartica to refuel, and continue, now north, on the opposite hemisphere, coming up on India or Africa.

How can we possibly do this? Unless...OMG, you're wrong!

Besides, as far as we can tell, all other planetary bodies are spherical-including the moon and the Sun-unless it magically rotates so it matches Earth's orbit...unless you're so dense you think Earth is the only true planetary body in the universe...unless...

I'm sure you've single-handedly converted anyone who had the most remote thoughts of FE theory. Well done! You must be the smartest person in history!
