Yeah, all those bugs should just sit there and fester.  Plus who needs new features?

Bugfixes and new features should be released as they are completed, not as a big bundle.

Microsoft still does periodical updates for bugfixes. I think service packs are a great idea, Microsoft can be sure that everything that added works and they have the time to weed out problems as opposed to waiting for them to happen to the end user then fixing them.

If only Microsoft actually wanted to weed out all the problems in Windows, this might work.

And why wouldn't  they?  It's not like they charge for fixing bugs and adding new features like the free software system.

Also: windows puts out service packs to bundle updates together. Linux puts out a new version.

And why wouldn't  they?

Because some of its problems were inserted intentionally.

Also: windows puts out service packs to bundle updates together. Linux puts out a new version.

Actually, normally new versions of Linux are accompanied by patches to allow you to update quickly and easily.

That's not a problem with the OS. The OS still runs fine and isn't hindered by that.

Having your OS's security hanging wide open isn't a problem with it? Good to know, I guess it's safe to log into X as root from now on.

I am sure that the US government isn't going to waste time searching my pc, and if they do I couldn't care less, I have a tendency to avoid CP.

I agree. In fact, I think we should all give a house key to our local police station, just in case they want to come in and search our property anytime they like. I mean, why should I care that they don't have a warrant? It's not like I'm doing anything illegal.

Anything you know... relevant to today?

That link is relevant today, because if nobody had discovered that backdoor it would never have been removed. The point isn't whether or not it exists, but whether or not Microsoft cares enough about its customers not to insert it in the first place; history shows quite clearly that it doesn't.

Just because something is named NSAkey doesn't mean it is for with the national security agency. I believe microsoft denies this has anything to do with the national security agency.

Did you read the rest of the sentence? They put the backdoor in, it was clearly deliberate.

I simply read "A careless mistake by Microsoft programmers"
Regardless, one old and fixed problem with Windows hardly means anything in an OS of today anyway. I'm sure if I searched around I could find some other careless, fixed mistakes with Linux

That was written in 1999 ([edit]and looks like updated 2002?[/edit]).  Although I don't have proof otherwise, I'm willing to bet that the article irrelevant to today.

So anyway...

How does a variable named "NSAKEY" mean it's a secret back door for the NSA?
