Quote from John Davis:

Quote
Crustinator got banned for flaming and troublemaking after the fact.  I did not ban him.

Anyone that posted in original now gone thread won't get banned for those posts.  In general we are moving the threads to RM.

If you want to flame someone, keep it to RM.  If you don't like being flamed, don't go to RM.  Thats as simple as I can make it.

Maybe you should explain to him that creating alts to circumvent a ban is a perma-ban offense.

Actually, it's not. Saddam and The Drifter have done it, and were not banned.

The Drifter was repeatedly re-banned, although no reason was no ever given for his initial ban in the first place.

It was, in both bases, condoned by mods to circumvent it to contact the forum to discuss the legitimacy. It's not a case of negligent moderation, it's accepted precedent.

I wouldn't go that far, Franklin.  The mods went easy on me, frankly, and threatened a ban extension if I didn't back off.  Also, I don't recall The Drifter ever getting his ban reversed.  All I remember are all his alts getting shot down one by one.

IIRC, one of his alts was allowed to stay. I remember it posting on 8/30.

AFAIK making alts for whatever reason is against the rules.  At the very least anyone should be able to find Daniels email if they wish to contest the ban or any one of ours.  Hopefully more often we'll start putting email addies in our emails.  We were talking about a public email account for all of us, but that has yet to materialize.

Hopefully future bans will have our email addresses mailed with the reason to the person banned.

Was he banned for insulting levee in RM?  Don't get me wrong, there are a dozen valid reasons why he ought to be banned, but it seems a silly reason to choose.

Honestly, I'm willing to give the mods the benefit of the doubt on this one.  Like I said, I do think it's a little bit silly that he got banned for getting into a squat with levee, but Crusty can be a real dick, and he's had something like this coming for a while.  For example, he's gotten reported a few times recently for trolling and derailing in the "Monty Hall" and "Moving to free software" threads.  I'm assuming that the mods took those kinds of things into consideration.

Unless, of course, it was levee who threw down the banhammer immediately without consulting anyone first. :-\

Him being banned at this time, in this current FES political climate, cannot be a coincidence.

I'm not saying it is a coincidence, I'm just saying that it might be a little bit more complicated than him simply insulting levee.

It being more complicated sounds like a convenient excuse.

Where did he insult levee? If it was outside RM, then he had it coming.  If it was in RM, then I don't understand why someone banned him.  He can be an asshole, but he's pretty funny most of the time. I haven't paid attention to what he posts in the srs bsns forums, though.
I'm sorry. Am I to understand that when you have a boner you like to imagine punching the shit out of Tom Bishop? That's disgusting.

It was the Lounge, which is funny, because the rules specifically state that you can make threads about people being stupid there. Apparently that's a misunderstanding, but it is stated there quite firmly.

Well, as much as I enjoy Crusty's sense of humor, I'm gonna have to side with the mods then.  Really the only forum we're allowed to flame each other in is RM.  I don't exactly remember what Wilmore meant when he wrote that post about what the Lounge is for, but he didn't mean the Lounge was for calling other members stupid.  Perhaps he should clarify it for the noobs.

Well, in that case I think the guidelines post should be edited. However, his insults were in no way more severe than the original thread. He made several threads that referred to the original one, such as "Levee is nuts", "Levee likes nuts", or "Certain people are nuts". They way I see it, the guidelines suggest that we call each other stupid in the Lounge (sure, I understand that wasn't the original intention, but that's what it says), and Crusty's offense wasn't that much compared to, well, anything.

This. I have no problem with the mods making a judgment call, in this case, because Crusty has done so much shitty trolling in serious forums, and hardly has a productive history here.
