It is hard when the parents have never experienced it before. I think it is good to experience marijuana just so you know when your kid walks into the house high.

Sorry, i don't buy that. If your kid starts acting weird, get suspicious and ask questions. you do NOT act the same high as when you are sober.

When you are high, you wouldn't really act weird. Usually you would look a little drowsy and you can get away with that by either saying you are tired, wearing glasses or running straight into the bathroom. Most kids spray themselves with perfume and stick a mint or chewing gum into their mouth before they enter the house, so the smell won't give it away either. The drowsiness usually lasts for a few hours (depends on how strong the weed is) but with a quick shower or washing your face, you would be sober again or at least look sober.

It is pretty easy to get away with it when you have parents that have no experience of it.

^ Agreed, i did for about 3 years. It takes 5 minutes for someone with moderate experience to know though.
Or someone who is in the least bit informed about their kids activities and normal daily behavior.

I imagine a lot of rents get confused because they have to let their teenagers become adults and have their friends and space.

Instead of weird, i should have said different, like.. WARING SUNGLASSES INSIDE, SAYING YOU'RE TIRED ALL THE TIME, OR RUNNING STRAIGHT TO THE BATHROOM EVERY TIME YOU COME HOME... or smelling like they just put on cologne every time they come home.

Who the heck do you think you're talking to? Someone who has never smoked weed? Silly berries.

lol. My true story...

I was sitting in my basement with a girl one fine day when i lived at home. My mom was doing laundry. Apparently i had left a bag of weed in my pocket, and it came out in the wash. she pulled the baggy out, and asked me what it was. I went pale. Iw as like.. aw shit. Then my mom says, Oh, well your brother went to Katies house for dinner yesterday, he must have been trying to be polite and pretend he ate broccoli and put it in this bag when they werent looking (my brother is an anti-vegetable kid)

I shat and agreed. She was fooled.

Then, i just stopped giving a fuck, and came home smelling like weed after half hour walks and made it super obvious.

LOL reminds me of this time me and friend decided to smoke out my windows, whilst my mum was in, i might add. Any who, the room stank and our eyes where so red a slitty it was unbelievable. She came bounding in like 'IS THAT DRAGS' (drags is drugs but in my mums London accent), i was like it's just my new spray 0_0. I managed to get away with it by the power of Grey skull and me and my boy was off to my friends house to proceed in getting utterly baked.

I've only smoked a few times in my life, I don't like it. I've made butter with it and done some baking but again, I don't particularly enjoy the feeling, its nice once in a while but not more than that because the feeling tires me out so much.

Well sounds like I'm a minority in my opinion, extremely biased, and most likely ignorant.

But you know what?  I don't care.  I hate recreational drug users.  I hate recreational drugs.  And I find the idea that people need to alter their mind in order to relax when there's nothing else wrong with them pathetic.

Reminds me of "Brave New World".  And if that's where you all think we should go, then I might as well go out the same way John did.

Oh please, you alter your mind whenever you do something you enjoy. Whether it's endorphins or any of the other 'happy chemicals in our brains', a chemical is released which makes you feel good. Recreational drug users inject it as artificially as going on a rollercoaster or looking at a majestic painting, the only real difference is that they get the drug without the stimuli.

I don't take drugs beyond alcohol (and medicines) but I harbour no ill will to somebody who treats their body as they see fit as long as they don't harm others.

My brain isn't altered, its doing exactly what it should be doing no more, no less.  Endorphins are part of the functioning human and having your brain release them isn't an alteration.

Altered is when you artificially add or change something.  If it happens naturally, it's just doing it's job.

So getting an adrenaline rush on a rollercoaster is completely natural is it? Subjecting your ears to loud music at a gig is natural is it? No artificial colours or flavours?

You're inducing the body to react a certain way by applying an external stimulus, same as drug users. If anything weed is more natural.

And anyway, whilst we're on the subject, why does natural=good?

Getting mauled by a bear is natural, scaring it off with a rifle blast is unnatural, guess which one I think is better?

Slightly off-topic but I just saw a guy shooting up speed (I'm assuming it was amphetamine not heroin cos heroin isn't very popular here and he was walking around with fast, slightly jerky movements afterwards) right in his kitchen window in the building opposite me.
I think I ought to send him a note telling him to put up curtains...

Also thats really not the kind of thing I'd expect to see in my neighbourhood

At least I'm honest about it.

So getting an adrenaline rush on a rollercoaster is completely natural is it? Subjecting your ears to loud music at a gig is natural is it? No artificial colours or flavours?
Yes it is.  It's using artificial objects to input naturally occurring stimulus.  It does not, in any way, alter the way the brain processes the data it receives.  It simply uses what we know about human behavior to induce specific reactions.  Similar to how music can be tuned to make someone sad, happy, or scared.

And anyway, whilst we're on the subject, why does natural=good?

Getting mauled by a bear is natural, scaring it off with a rifle blast is unnatural, guess which one I think is better?

Depends on who you are, the Human or the bear.  The Human thinks getting mauled is bad and scaring the bear away is good but the Bear thinks mauling is good (as it's likely just protecting it's territory) and being scared is bad.
But again, you're using the laws of nature to create specific stimuli in the bear.  A specific pattern of external forces against the sensory inputs to produce a desired effect.
Drugs, however, alter the sensory inputs or how they information is processed to do it.
It's the opposite of your examples really.  It's like if you were sitting on your couch and felt like you were on a rollercoaster even though there was no wind, no movement, and no visual imagery.

Lorddave, do you have a moral objection to aspirin?

No but as I said, I have no objection to drugs that have a benefit such as pain relief.  Weed, from what I can tell, has no benefit except relaxation when taken by someone healthy.  (ie. no cancer or glaucoma)

Again, you're all missing my point:
Marijuana alters the way data is transmitted in the brain AND there is no medical benefit to doing so (aside from the aforementioned cancer and glaucoma issues).

But who am I kidding?  I just hate it because the kids in school who picked on me did it so I associate them with Drug users and thus hate all drug users. (and don't twist my words you know what I mean by drug users)  So like the Religious, the Conspiracy theorist, and Flat Earther... I shall not budge, move, or change my mind on the subject regardless of how wrong I may be.
You have been ignored for common interest of mankind.
