Well sounds like I'm a minority in my opinion, extremely biased, and most likely ignorant.
But you know what? I don't care. I hate recreational drug users. I hate recreational drugs. And I find the idea that people need to alter their mind in order to relax when there's nothing else wrong with them pathetic.
Reminds me of "Brave New World". And if that's where you all think we should go, then I might as well go out the same way John did.
That's funny, because your "I don't care about justifying my opinion and admit that it's biased, but I'm going to hate on a group of people for no particular fucking reason" approach to drugs reminds me more strongly of Brave New World than anything else in this thread.
At least I'm honest about it.
So getting an adrenaline rush on a rollercoaster is completely natural is it? Subjecting your ears to loud music at a gig is natural is it? No artificial colours or flavours?
Yes it is. It's using artificial objects to input naturally occurring stimulus. It does not, in any way, alter the way the brain processes the data it receives. It simply uses what we know about human behavior to induce specific reactions. Similar to how music can be tuned to make someone sad, happy, or scared.
And anyway, whilst we're on the subject, why does natural=good?
Getting mauled by a bear is natural, scaring it off with a rifle blast is unnatural, guess which one I think is better?
Depends on who you are, the Human or the bear. The Human thinks getting mauled is bad and scaring the bear away is good but the Bear thinks mauling is good (as it's likely just protecting it's territory) and being scared is bad.
But again, you're using the laws of nature to create specific stimuli in the bear. A specific pattern of external forces against the sensory inputs to produce a desired effect.
Drugs, however, alter the sensory inputs or how they information is processed to do it.
It's the opposite of your examples really. It's like if you were sitting on your couch and felt like you were on a rollercoaster even though there was no wind, no movement, and no visual imagery.
Lorddave, do you have a moral objection to aspirin?
No but as I said, I have no objection to drugs that have a benefit such as pain relief. Weed, from what I can tell, has no benefit except relaxation when taken by someone healthy. (ie. no cancer or glaucoma)
Again, you're all missing my point:
Marijuana alters the way data is transmitted in the brain AND there is no medical benefit to doing so (aside from the aforementioned cancer and glaucoma issues).
But who am I kidding? I just hate it because the kids in school who picked on me did it so I associate them with Drug users and thus hate all drug users. (and don't twist my words you know what I mean by drug users) So like the Religious, the Conspiracy theorist, and Flat Earther... I shall not budge, move, or change my mind on the subject regardless of how wrong I may be.
