I can't believe this place really exists
« on: May 26, 2010, 07:56:15 PM »
Really?  Flat Earth?!  Even when you fly a plain and look in the distance, you can see that the earth is clearly round (it looks pritty cool actually).  I'm pritty sure that who ever created this side pulled a great joke on everyone tha even considered this theory.  But just for the sake of amusenment, convince me that the Earth is flat, give me one good scientific proof.

Really, a flat earth.
I saw a slight haze in the hotel bathroom this morning after I took a shower, have I discovered a new planet?

"Pritty"?  One time, it's a typo.  But twice...

Anyway, I've always thought the Earth still looked pretty flat when flying.

I've been to Canada.  It's Australia I've always been suspicious about.  Surely I would have seen concrete evidence of such a large entity if it truly existed.

I don't believe this place exists either.  But then again nothing does, I am a nihilist.

The Earth looks flat from an aeroplane. Face it krzych32, you've never piloted a plane, have you.

Nice picture.  Too bad its inaccurate.  What altitude was it taken at?   The wing and engine suggest a 757 or 767 possibly Airbus.  In any case those airplanes cannot reach an altitude where any discernible "curvature" exists.

I don't know. Why don't you find out?

You're just assuming its inaccurate without giving good reason why.

The curvature of the earth is visible from high altitude aircraft. Photographs of this exist and are freely available. Stop bawwing.

The earth doesn't look flat from either an aeroplane or the ground. Even without seeing curvature, there is a horizon and ground detail stops when if it was flat there would be things visible beyond there. The appearance of earth from any altitude is inconsistent with the appearance of a flat plane.

Just saying it doesn't make it true. I suggest you contact the person who took the photo and demand to know why they decided to fake it.

Lurk moar.  I actually fly pretty regular...and sit in the cockpit!!  You cant see any "curvature" from commercial altitudes.

Why I have my own photos from 45,000 feet that show no curvature what so ever...which pic would be more accurate?

That would depend on the focal length of the lens and the size of the sensor.  Wide angle lenses can exaggerate curvature by having a wider field of view while telephoto lenses have a smaller field of view thereby minimizing any curvature.  A "normal" lens approximates a human's field of view and would produce the most accurate results.

I have been to Africa and didn't see any lions. Therefore there are no lions in Africa. Anyone who claims there are lions in Africa is probably lying for profit.

So? What does this have to do with the complete lack of lions in Africa?
