The seven steps to financial peace:

1. Build a $1000 emergency fund, only to be used for actual emergencies.
2. Cut up all your credit cards, do not borrow anymore money from anyone (banks or otherwise) and pay off all of your debt(except for your house) as fast as you can.
3. Finish off your emergency fund with 3-6 months expenses
4. Invest 15% of your income towards retirement, starting with a ROTH IRA in mutual funds making around 12% annually
5. Start saving for your kids college (optional)
6. Pay off your house
7. Build wealth and give

You forgot 'go to art school'.
Think hard. Think Flat.

Pff, saving is for whimps. And having debt is cool, that's why I'm amazing.
