I would say he's the third greatest director of all time, behind Alfred Hitchcock and Francis Ford Coppola.

A research paper on Tarantino? Pls explain.

It's for a humanities course.  I have to explain the art styles of a particular artist.  The professor said that Tarantino was a good choice.

Oh, God.  I knew that there would be a downside to researching this.  Look what I came up with.  Warning: If you enjoyed the kickass "Little Green Bag" strutting scene from Reservoir Dogs, then you might not want to watch this.

He's a master of talking scenes. He even pwns Scorsese in that department. He does have a pretty sick sense of humor though.

Which is one of his problems.  I saw where one critic said that it's a pity that Quentin Tarantino the director is so in love with Quentin Tarantino the screen writer.  Sometimes it seems a bit of a struggle to get through all the brilliant dialogue just so that you can get to the action that you've been waiting an hour and a half see.

He has some great films and could possibly have done even better things had he not cocked some things up.  He should've directed Natural Born Killers and True Romance imo.  Also, some of his films, (Four Rooms, From Dusk Till Dawn) are a bit half baked and are only good for about 1/2 the film, then they become brilliant.  Four Rooms is a classic example, (2 shit stories, 2 excellent ones, and one of those shows directly how much a master of talking scenes he is).

I like Tarantino, but I strongly disagree. Scorcese, Kubrick, Scott, Lean, Spielberg and maybe even Eastwood (to name a few) would pip him in my books. His first three films were wonderful, but his subsequent work simply hasn't been as good.

Allow me to give you some ultra-valuable advice on writing research papers.  Only pick a person/topic that you plan on bashing, whether you believe it or not.  It makes you sound like you have a more informed view on the topic.  For example, if you pick Tarantino and point out all the flaws in his style, perhaps say that he relies more on the reuse of mega-stars than actual content, or cite styles of plots relating to Shakespeare and how he deviates from the norm (and therefore confuses his audience).  It will sound a shit load better than saying, "ZOMG, Tarantino is the bestest director since Hitchcock and everything he does is the rulest!!!!"  It just makes you sound like a fan boy and it's harder to find content.

An important exception to this rule is that you cannot pick a negative topic and bash it.  You cannot pick Hitler as a research topic then talk about how bad of a guy he was.  Everyone knows he was a d-bag and it's not interesting.  (And I'm not suggesting you write a positive paper about Hitler, while more interesting, I wouldn't recommend it for political reasons)

His first three are the entire reason for this.

Agreed, except for Kubrick. I don't see what other people see in his movies.

Really?

Why not?  I thought it was really good.  Sure it had its dry parts like all his movies, but I thought it accomplished exactly what it intended, and did so with finesse.

Pulp Fiction was good, but ask just about anyone what it was about and they won't really be able to tell you.  Pulp Fiction was a culmination of events that basically ended in nothing, and while was a good ride had no destination.

That comes from Tarantino's love of the French New Wave.
