John Davis is drunk with power
« on: April 03, 2010, 06:08:49 AM »
I am of the opinion that he locks threads unnecessarily, and that he tells people off for reporting posts, claiming it is "memberating" when in fact it's an action that members are perfectly within their rights to do.

So you think reporting someone's post is memberating? Interesting.

BTW, I'm not allowed to tell you to post your personal insult stuff in Random Musings rather than here, because that would be memberating.

You can claim whatever you wish, I'm just going to point out that you're either an idiot, or a troll. Or both.

Telling you to do that in the correct f*cking section would be memberating. Should I use a bigger hammer to knock the hint into your head?

I will say pretty much exactly what I said to you via PM, and we'll see what other people think.

Here's the warning you were given:

Don't post content lacking posts or memberate.

As a post, "Reported for pointlessness" lacks content, in that it in no way contributes to the thread. This is against the rules in Flat Earth Debate:

Trolling and low-content posting will not be tolerated and this forum will be moderated quite strictly. "Low-content posting" refers to short posts like "lol" or "yeah" or "that's dumb." Before you make a post in here, ask yourself, "am I really adding anything to the conversation?" If the answer is "no", you probably shouldn't make the post.

I have warned you about this before, so you have no excuse for breaking this rule again. Furthermore, you then decided to argue with the moderator about the warning, something which you have also been warned about before. So let's sum it up:

1) You broke a rule, one which you have previously been warned about. In itself, this warrants a ban.

2) You were warned yet again, and then decided to dispute that warn outside S&C, something which is against the rules and which you have been warned about before. Again, in itself this warrants a ban.

That's my assessment of the situation, and had you started a thread in S&C in the first place, this would have been discussed in an open and transparent manner, without unnecessarily derailing a thread in Flat Earth Debate. Moreover you would not have been banned.

Actually, I can see how John thought it was akin to memberating, but in any event he wasn't banned for it. His post certainly lacked content though, and to be honest I was going to issue a suspension before I saw that John had cautioned him. I have warned him on several occasions that such posts are not acceptable in Flat Earth Debate, and have also warned him in response to numerous other petty offences throughout the upper boards, so I felt a ban was warranted.

As it happened, John (who naturally was unaware of my previous warnings) got there first, so I was happy to leave it at that. However, when he started arguing about it in the thread (something else he has been warned about, and maybe even banned for - I forget), he didn't really leave me with any options. Besides, he was banned for just a week. Arguably it could have been more, but hey, I'm a nice guy =)

As someone who enjoys wine, I demand to know what kind of wines you tend to like or prefer.

Having been to Greece seven times and consumed ouzo from Lesbos, I can personally vouch that it is better than the other ouzo in Greece.  At any rate, lent ends tonight so Happy Easter  8)

EDIT:

Perhaps levee should check it out.  Since he is Romanian and Lesbos is in the northern Aegean, he doesn't have very far to go, but perhaps the liquor store in Bucharest is cheaper.

Wilmore, you don't seem to get that this isn't a complaint about being banned. This is nothing to do with you banning me, it's to do with accusations of memberating from Davis, which is why the thread does not include "...and Wilmore is a w***er" in the title. I admitted that the disputing thing was a fair cop in a PM to you, which you chose not to show in your selection from our correspondence. My beef is that Davis gave me a warning for something I didn't do.

They are called private messages for a reason. Reproducing my own statements or views is one thing, but I feel that when someone contacts me privately, it's not my right to post those messages for the whole board to see.

My beef is that Davis gave me a warning for something I didn't do.

'Memberating' is telling other users how they should post as if you had the right to do so. Seeing as you didn't actually report Tom's post, your claim that you were just 'informing' him of your report is obviously nonsense. So as I said earlier:

Actually, I can see how John thought it was akin to memberating

And remember, the first part of his warning was concerned with the post's lack of content, which cannot be contested.

Really because it seemed you had a beef with me "locking threads unnecessarily" and "telling people off for reporting posts" (neither of which I've never done).

As far as I can tell the following is true:
You never reported said post.  I never told you off for reporting posts.  I never accused you of memberating.  I never told anyone off for reporting legitimately.  You have been habitually lying, from before you were even banned, to the moderation and administration staff here.  You were trying to fear users into not posting legitimate posts while in the very same breath disrupting serious discussion.

If at the time of the warning you felt like I was incorrect, then would have been the time to make a thread like this one or simply ask me via pm.  You didn't, despite having been warned about this in the past.  Instead you broke more rules.  As many would likely tell you, I often admit when I'm wrong and am pleased to do my best to rectify the situation, whether its in a discussion or a moderation attempt.

A quick addition to Wilmores post, I doubt you would ever be banned for posting "Reported" if it was not breaking other rules at the same time.

Also, I enjoy a nice ouzo.  I had a few when I was in Greece, but I have no idea if they were from Lesbos.

As far as wine, a red usually, probably from Spain or Australia.  A nice canadian ice wine can be a decent after dinner wine, but few like it and it lasts for so short a time.

I tend to drink red myself, though I'm more into Italian wines, especially Primitivo (realluy yum).

I do enjoy a good Italian wine, but they seem way more expensive here for some reason.  I need to move to Europe.

Tend to produce quite sweet stuff though. I don't like them to be too sugary.

In Italy the prices are just amazing, but to be you honest you pay through the nose here in Ireland. I doubt it's cheaper here than in the States.
