Theories
« on: March 25, 2010, 09:21:36 AM »
If we use Gould's definiton of a theory, it is an explanation and interpretation of observable data.  A Fact is simply observable data.

So with this definition FET is a valid theory, sort of.

The problem is that it discounts many facts by calling them fake or illusions.

Fact:  We can see that the Earth has an apparent curvature with the way thing disappear over the horizon.
Response:  Illusion.

Fact:  We can see the curvature of the Earth in photos taken from space.
Response: Faked

This makes me hesitant to call FET a good theory.  It is not an interpretation and explanation of all observable facts in that is explanations and interpretations are simply discrediting facts.

Discuss.

Well I will read it, but you've already proven me wrong with respect ot this:

FET has a valid explanation for why the claim the horizon as an illusion.

However, I say the point still stands for the conspiracy.

EDIT: upon reading, I found the theory flawed in that my observations have not met the ones described.

except, there is someone on this forum that did the experiment and got very different results

http://www.theflatearthsociety.org/forum/index.php?topic=22317.0

and there is something wrong with just about every single video in that second link showing nasa is "untrustworthy"

for example, it shows that changing color to a higher contrast makes it a lower contrast.... how does that make sense?

Or, that holding an object on its edge wont make it hang from its center of mass, that doesnt make sense either, lol

However, he has fufilled my complaints in showing that they can at least back up their disregard for facts.

I do agree with you that their explanations are sub-par, however they are sufficient to make FET count as a theory.

A debate on how correct the anit-Nasa and anti-light theories is better discussed elsewhere as Bishop has already shown himself to be right in this thread.

The person in that thread didn't use a telescope. Just the zoom on a camera lens.

How does a camera with a powerful zoom lens not meet the criteria of a telescope?

There's a possibility it could have been a digital zoom as opposed to optical magnification which could potentially yield difference results.

However I've already said that I used a telescope an observed different phenomena then what is described in the article.

They were valid for this topic, as all I was asking was if FET made any attempt to reconcile with the observable data which contradicts it.

The validity of said attempts are a debate for a different thread.

This I know. I am insinuating that Tom Bishop has posted spam and should be dealt with appropriately. His wiki does not provide one sliver of evidence and is packed lies and incorrect, warped observations. Every one of the articles has been proven as wrong.

That's a good question. I saw the original post and it didn't seem delete-worthy at all. It actually helped with the conversation greatly.

It's because FET is attempting to create a conspiracy to hide the fact that the earth is round.  Part of doing that was deleting your assertion that you were not using digital zoom.

Tom Bishop is mad as a hatter. He thinks NASA is the only agency to ever go up into space as well. Well mr Bishop I'm an oceanic cartographer a research geologist. I've sailed every inch of this planet and I'm sorry to tell you that the world is round and that antarctica exists.
