The game asteroids is on a flat plane.  But the top and bottom are connected, as is the left and right, allowing one to continue any journey in a given direction,  or even launch a pseudolite in an arc that could last many, many days.

How could a game like Asteroids, which takes place in outer space, reconcile anything about the ice wall?

but I see the point you are trying to make. however, unless you believe that magic or God is responsible for returning people to the Earth from the ice wall, I don't see how this is compatible with physics. maybe an infinite number of wormholes exist around the ice wall that transport someone across the Earth.  ::)

This has been discussed before in terms of a fractal earth that "collapses" (much like a wave function).
