Forcing people to buy health insurance

How is it any more unconstitutional to force everyone to buy health insurance than it is to force everyone to pay for social security?

Why can't we just get jobs that have health care plans? I mean even freddies has health care.

Because that would only be providing insurance to a limited market of people and all businesses would be forced to provide health insurance. Besides, what is the point of even having the business as a middle man?

I don't have to pay for mine, I just choose the base plan and it's free (with a $15 co pay) and I get all my cleanings for my teeth for free and good coverage for oral sergery (got two wisdom teeth out only cost me $300) Per month I only pay 40 bucks into federal medicare.

What would I end up paying If I had to pay for my own health care plan? Could I get it for free, with out loosing my current benifits?

Ever hear the phrase: "there's no such thing as a free lunch"? The business is paying for it, and the business is paying you, think there might be a correlation in your income vs. your "free" insurance?

I think most people are angry that you have to buy from a private company. Social Security is a government run thing.

That is interesting because from what I hear, most of those objecting to a health insurance bill dislike the idea of a government run health insurance system like Canada's, and would prefer a private option over a government run system. Where did you get the idea that buying from private companies makes most people angry?

I make more money than I need at the moment at my job, so it really doesn't affect me too much. So I don't see what the problem is. If I wasn't making that much then I would be upset that so much was going towards the health care. But the fact is it doesn't affect my weekly check and I knew my base pay going into the job. It even went up 2 bucks before I even got to the job due to a new union contract that went into effect. My point is that I would rather keep the current system because it works for me and lets me maintain my current life style.

So you're using the justification that you personally make enough at your job, that you don't mind that some of your paycheck is being taken out to buy overly expensive health insurance? Are you literally so terrified of the federal government that you're willing to pay more than you need to for insurance?

My point is that I would rather keep the current system because it works for me and lets me maintain my current life style.

What about the many people with pre-existing conditions  that are denied coverage? That is, one of those many people who is out of a job because of the current economy, or does not have a job that covers their entire family and who cannot afford the huge costs of insurance right now? You care about those people right? I mean, I'm sure any moral Christian would, right?

I can relate, because for one:
I think most people are angry that you have to buy from a private company. Social Security is a government run thing.

Social security is a tax upon all people actively earning an income and levied across the board based upon income.  Conversely the health care fines would specifically target people without insuracne and force them, under threat of penalty, to buy something from the private sector.  This is something that does not exist elsewhere in our society.

Having the government mandate, by law, that the middle and lower classes have to send their money to the top 1 percent of the elite, instead of a public program that everybody owns, in order to purchase a product, in which the government has promised not to help negotiate prices (among other deals made), probably would piss a lot of people off.

Don't get me wrong, I would personally favor a government run system over private, but you know the right, they just can't stand those government inefficiencies  ;)

The private insurance system is incredibly inefficient. Most people against a public option do so because they don't want their money going to pay for someone else's medical bills.

It takes so much of my energy to leave the Americans to it in threads like this, without spamming it with, 'lol, we have a national health service and it rules'..

Whoops.

Unless you are too sick that the insurance companies deny you coverage or are too poor to afford insurance all together.

Hey, here's an idea,  why don't we just have a true universal health care system? It seems to work out perfectly for other countries, why not ours? Oh, that's right, that would be putting less money into doctor's pockets.
The only possible explanation for this is that the Earth is generally spherical in shape, otherwise, such a perpetual curvature could not exist

Why don't we cap jury awards, not pay insurance people at all and pocket the rest of the money.

The current American private-health insurance business is wonderful.

The healthy still pay for the sick, especially when those not covered go to the hospital and don't pay.

American system is obviously flawed in large part do to the fundamental value that the free market will bring around competition and therefore raise standards.  But state monopolies, such as the one in Indiana, give one company the power to raise the price to whatever they want without consquences.  The only functional system is a universal system within wich a private sector could be maintained (like what Australia has).  Pay for Canadien physicians doesn't seem that bad to me, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Health_care_in_Canada#Physicians.2C_nurses_and_medical_organization

Nor do doctors in the UK
http://www.nhscareers.nhs.uk/details/Default.aspx?Id=553

Also, this American is very for a Universal System.
Normally when I'm not sure I just cop a feel.

If the Dems pass the health care bill, Rush Limbaugh says he'll leave the country.  I think that is reason enough to pass the bill!
I'm sorry. Am I to understand that when you have a boner you like to imagine punching the shit out of Tom Bishop? That's disgusting.
