I don't think FES should officially endorse any channel that has lower forum trolls as channel operators.

Oh, God, please don't start this again.

He sent me a PM asking about it, and I said yes. There really wasn't anything more to it.

By stickying this thread, you have implied official FES endorsement of Franklin's channel; endorsement which was never granted to any other incarnation of the channel. I don't see how you could not have:

a) checked Franklin's motives for creating a new one, having been an active participant in the old one until recently (I'm still not sure what his reasons are myself), and;
b) foreseen that it would do nothing for the forum but create drama as everyone picks a side and those on one side feel that they've been given an unfair deal;

before agreeing to Franklin's request.

Be it known that I don't hold any objection to Franklin creating his own channel; that is his right to do so, as much as I think it is silly. I object to him being given privileged status and claiming his channel to be "official" when there is nothing to distinguish it from other channels which have been around longer.
I'm going to side with the white supremacists.

Just to reiterate. This channel is official because I sought out admin approval before releasing it. Also, the moderation of this site, namely Wilmore, Daniel, and Gayer, are given ultimate authority over the channel. It was not made to cause drama or spite anyone. People may disagree and say I'm lying, but that's nothing new to FES. ;)

There used to be an official channel but Beardo was the only one that ever went on it by the time I joined FES. And the guy that owned it disappeared.

I just pinned it because he asked, and having a 'main' IRC seemed like a fairly straightforward idea (silly me). I don't really do IRCs, and had no clue about whatever 'politics' were going on in the old one.

The way I see it, a 'main' IRC is a good idea. As for which one it is or who runs, I don't really care. You guys work it out between yourselves - be creative about it, have a fully fledged election topic/campaign or a game of hangman or something. I'll happily pin the winner's IRC =)

I agree about the "main" IRC idea, but I also think that the one which was created first (at the request of members, no less) should have de facto "official" status. Johannes's was created as an offshoot from the main one when he was banned, which is why nobody took it seriously, and the same would apply to Franklin's if it weren't being endorsed by FES.

There was a main IRC and that was Parsifal's. This does nothing but mix things up by having two FES channels with activity in both. Now what good does that do for anyone?

Any official IRC needs to have me as an op. At the moment only Franklin's does, therefore his is official.

Yours wasn't created first

I knew someone would say this. Yes, there were other fucking IRCs before the ones that are currently active, but I don't see why that's worth mentioning unless someone wants to give official status to a long-dead and by now unregistered channel that there are only two or three members who have been here long enough to remember.

Guys, seriously, have a vote and settle it. Create a topic and agree to abide by the results. I promise to abide by whatever decision the members make, but failing that, Franklin's will remain pinned simply because he asked me, and I agreed.

I'm gonna make my own and it will be official.

Except I won't cos I'm lazy.

So we should all join forces and stop being so gay and make sure I have ops.

I offered Parsifal a compromise and he rejected it. We "discussed" it, and he was too stubborn to allow for any type of compromise.

Why should there be any sort of compromise from Parsifal's side? You're the one who caused all this, so naturally you're the one who should give in.

I don't see how your offer constitutes a compromise. You created a brand new spin-off IRC with different terms, and now you think it's a compromise for me to merge with yours.

I guess I see your point. People with differing opinions should just give in to my opinion with no rational discussion. That's how things are supposed to work.

I have given this some consideration, and I will agree to the result of such a poll provided one of the channels wins by at least a two-thirds majority. If there is no two-thirds majority, then neither channel is official. Are we all in agreement?

The way I see it, Parsifal has had an unofficial irc channel for months. Then Franklin decides to make an official one, and he discusses it with Wilmore, a moderator, who gives the OK and thumbsup for the creation of an official channel. And this, Parsifal can't accept.

Let's imagine, for the sake of argument, that if the creator of an unofficial website about, let's say a band or a computer game, starts complaining because the people behind said band or game decides to make an official website. How wrong wouldn't that be? I think that's exactly what's happening here. Only here, it's about an official IRC channel for TFES, and an unofficial one.

I'm not actually taking sides here. I'm trying to remain as neutral as possible, cos in the end, I don't really care which channel gets to keep the official status, or if there's a merge or whatever. I just think it's a bit silly that the owner of an unofficial channel starts complaining just because FES all of a sudden gets and official one.

Don't worry, this is partially because Parsifal banned me from IRC, and de-opped anyone who tried to unban me.

I like having two, that way, if the conservation in one gets boring (which it often does) there is still the opportunity for interesting conversation in the other.

Wilmore stated earlier in the thread that as far as he's concerned, all IRCs are unofficial. Furthermore, the only reason Franklin made this one is because he didn't like the way the other one was run (though what I did wrong, I still can't figure out, apart from him disagreeing with me about Saddam's ban). Since Wilmore had nothing to do with the creation of this channel, and it was created for dubious reasons, I don't think your analogy applies.

Ahh nice, thats where it is.

Nobody has yet responded to this. I consider a two-thirds majority to be a "fair and square" assessment of democratic preference. Anything less is subject to statistical error and is likely to create more drama. If we (myself, Franklin and Wilmore, in particular) are all in agreement on this matter, I will create a poll.
