I'm happy, happy that the Society has been officially revived and Daniel could claim sixty honest-to-gosh members.  The Flat Earth Society did not go down into the dust and disappear.

I'm happy Daniel can claim some enjoyment from fooling The Media into thinking he's serious.  ::)

What I think is that Daniel is Chief Troll. What I think the majority of people reading the article will conclude about him is that he has some sort of mental defect or is a simpleton.
This is just my opinion.

How do you know this? He might be posting under a different username. Tom Bishop for example.

Or Parsec.  Or perhaps he posts as DA for RET.  Daniel is sneaky like that sometimes.

Possibly. However, this is an incomplete possibility, since parses's profile's registration date is much later than the date of establishment of the FES's site.

Irrelevant.  He could have used countless different accounts over the years.  It is his site, after all.

You can now listen to part of Daniel's interview in the Guardian's Science Weekly Podcast:

Nice.  The segment on the FES begins at about 13:00, and Daniel is heard at about 14:00.  Oddly enough, his accent seems to be both American and British. :-\

Or like an American who's been living in England for a while.  It's kinda scary how you can start to pick up a regional accent without realizing it.

Daniel has a very pleasant voice.  Funny how the people afterward divided into the two groups we most often see here, that is one defended the worth of sceptical inquiry and one thought the FES are all just stubborn habitual deniers.

I've left a Comment Is Free comment to try and stem the flood of boring, repetetive n00bs

Quote
I'm a member of the Flat Earth Society forums  (But not a flat-earther) and I can never tell whether Daniel is serious or not. 99% of people who claim to be Flat Earthers on the site are most definitely not.

It's a good place to test your debating skills, though, to argue as persuasively as possible for an argument you don't believe in.

Please, if you join the site, don't bother asking about:
-The sinking ship phenomenon
-gravity
-spaceflight
-pictures
-GPS
-distances on the southern hemisphere being further apart

They've all been asked before and a quick use of the 'search' feature should answer most questions.

According to the spanish article in El Pais newspaper, Daniel Shenton is unrelated to Samuel Shenton other than the fact that both of them lived in England, both of them had the same last name, and both of them were presidents of Flat Earth societies.

According to El Pais writer Jordi Costa "Daniel Shenton (sin parentesco con el primer Shenton, Samuel) ..."

http://www.elpais.com/articulo/portada/Miedo/planeta/esferico/elppor/20100319elptenpor_8/Tes

In spanish, the word "sin" has a negative application.  In this case, it means he is not his parent.
