who cares if he is a christian?? I know some christians who are nice and some are bad, and the same with atheists.. so it doesn't matter!!!!

I agree.

I've always had the philosophy that, to be truly good, you need to do what is best for others without fear or reward.  (ie. No god saying you'll go to hell if you do the wrong thing but heaven with eternal bliss for the right).
I'm an Atheist and I do what I feel is right because I want to.

I'm an Atheist and I do what I feel is right because I want to.

And you want to because it rewards you with a sense of pride and joy. If you want to truly do something without any reward, hurt other people and treat them poorly. Those are the true altruists.

Partly.
Partly because I can empathize.
Mostly though because their problem annoys the hell out of me and I want to show my superiority by solving it for them.

But my point is that I don't need an eternal reward for it or threat of eternal punishment.  I do it for me, myself, and I as do all humans.

Based on my observations and interpretations, all animals go for pleasure and shy away from pain.  What brings them pleasure or pain is the complex part.  Like someone who at a soup kitchen takes up valuable time but it makes them happy for whatever reason.  Maybe pride.  Maybe the promise of eternal reward.  Maybe empathy.  Or maybe they do it because the guilt they would feel if they didn't was greater than the pleasure they would receive(by doing other things) not working at the soup kitchen.

Humans are far more complex than other animals in this regard.

I'd say they're better only in that they are more patient.  But in the end, your motivation is the sole factor in morality isn't it?

We can all say murder is immoral but I doubt many would say that murdering someone who was about to kill you was immoral.

Or for a more topic related example:
What if you do good deeds, donate millions to children in need, preach love and tolerance, all for the sole purpose of being put into a position of power and trust?  Does that makes you a good person or a bad one?

For me, my motivation makes me an egotistical person looking for recognition as well as someone who get's easily frustrated.  However, I am unwilling to cause harm for that recognition. (Ie. I won't create a problem so I can solve it)
On the flip side, there is never any guarantee that I will get recognition for helping and I have found myself helping people who I dislike.  It's rare for me to refuse to help anyone when I have the ability to help and I seem to want the attention but then play modesty and try to avoid it.
What does that say about me I wonder?

I am of the strong opinion that the result matters, not the way it was achieved or the underlying motive. If someone chooses to help another person that is good enough for me. I don't need to know why he did it.

Maybe that makes me a shallow or bad person, but I think it's the only logical way to evaluate these things.
