At long last... The iPad

Of course this is Apple, so naturally it won't be available for 60 days or so pending FCC authorization.

I think I'm in for one. $500 is about all I am willing to pay for a tablet without multitasking though.

Pricing is $499 for the 16GB model, but there will be 32 ($500) and 64 GB ($600) versions as well.  3G will cost you $130 extra.

I like how that article mentions the game usage on it, but doesn't delve any further than that.

It looks amazing, i'm just not sure what its for. Its not like you can carry it like smartphone and if you need any power you still need a laptop. I guess if u have a desktop and don't fancy forking out for a laptop. It seems like a iPhone with a whopping great screen.

I've been waiting for someone to do something like this for ages. I was even having chats with people about it recently. I figured Apple would probably do it first.

Of course they would. No one can steal the ideas if Apple doesn't make them.

You'll still have to carry a full size keyboard with you wherever you go. I don't see how that's any more convenient than a laptop.

??? Who said that you need a full size keyboard?  Apple is saying that the touch screen keyboard is nearly as big as a full size laptop keyboard.  Essentially it's a large screen, next gen iPod Touch.

Meh, all it looks like to me is an over-sized iPhone.
The only possible explanation for this is that the Earth is generally spherical in shape, otherwise, such a perpetual curvature could not exist

You can change the wallpaper with a quick hack

High Def Youtube videos, I can't tell the difference.

Why do you need multi-touch screens. I agree it's cooler but hundreds of dollars cooler?

Why do you need multi-touch screens?

So that you don't need a keyboard or mouse.

Touch keyboards are not convenient to type on and tend to smudge up the screen.

Not to mention that you would have to lay it down flat to type on it, viewing the screen from a steep angle. You would need to be picking it up to face you and then putting it down flat over and over whenever you want to type.

Would you really want to go through the annoying business of laying it down flat to type, when you could have just bought a laptop instead?

It looks a lot uglier than I was expecting, especially after seeing the concept for the microsoft courier.

For any of you guys that are thinking of buying this I highly suggest you wait at least a year or two. You don't want to be ripped off when the second version comes out with faster software and a cheaper price. I am referring to the iPhone/Itouch

it's cheaper too.

It's going to be a powerful large ipod touch. I don't see that as a bad thing, though for all the people saying you need to bring a keyboard, I guess that'll be a bluetooth keyboard because it lacks a usb port.

For 500 dollars it doesn't seem that bad, and for the record it will be capable of multitasking even if that requires a hack or two. Even the iphone can multitask.

Basically, this is a Star Trek DS9 fantasy come true, and for that I love it. However, I think the design is a little lazy (Honey I Blew Up the iPhone), and some of the concept work for similar devices by other companies did look cooler.

Yeah, the more I see it, the worse it looks. Not Apple's finest hour by any means.

I still think the concept is something that will become really popular, but I'm not sure it's going to be Apple who pull it off, simply because the design really is quite naff.
