I'm willing to bet 9/11 didn't apply to you directly.  Do you not care about that as well?

You'd lose that bet. That happened in American and impacted Americans as a whole. I just don't give a rats a** about the political spectrums in other countries as of right now, someday that may change though.

a statement was made about your politcal party. I was trying to point out that it applied more directly to you than 9/11 (something I knew you would care deeply about). So when you said it didn't apply to you, I was trying say that it did in fact apply to you, but you brushed it off with an incorrect statement rather than addressing the point.

Also, I said DIRECTLY. Just because something happens in the US does not mean it applies to you directly. Do you think that Idaho patato taxes is something that applies to you directly?

You know, the funny thing about the laws of the bible is that surprisingly few of them apply today. The obvious ones like "don't kill each other over petty disputes and keep your paws from each other's stuff" would be there anyway, and the other ones, like the ones against homosexuality and other ones, were thought up in an age when getting attacked by sea monsters was a valid excuse for losing cargo from your ship.

All old jewish laws.

Are you saying the bible doesn't ban these things?

Yes, except for the one in Ephesians. The New Testament trumps the old.

Refer to Paul the Apostle's epistle to the church in Rome, Chapter 7, verses 1-6 (NLT):

"Now, dear brothers and sisters—you who are familiar with the law—don’t you know that the law applies only while a person is living? For example, when a woman marries, the law binds her to her husband as long as he is alive. But if he dies, the laws of marriage no longer apply to her. So while her husband is alive, she would be committing adultery if she married another man. But if her husband dies, she is free from that law and does not commit adultery when she remarries.

So, my dear brothers and sisters, this is the point: You died to the power of the law when you died with Christ. And now you are united with the one who was raised from the dead. As a result, we can produce a harvest of good deeds for God. When we were controlled by our old nature, sinful desires were at work within us, and the law aroused these evil desires that produced a harvest of sinful deeds, resulting in death. But now we have been released from the law, for we died to it and are no longer captive to its power. Now we can serve God, not in the old way of obeying the letter of the law, but in the new way of living in the Spirit."

By treating those laws as canon, Christians could actually be committing sin, if you can believe it. At the time Paul was writing, some Christians were still trying to follow the rituals and laws of the Old Covenant. While these things are not inherently wrong (indeed many of them are excellent ideas, such as placing latrines outside the army camp), Christians are not redeemed by the law, but by the undeserved grace of a benevolent God. By following the law for the purpose of redeeming ourselves, we cheapen the magnitude of Christ's sacrifice:

Galatians 5:2-4 (NIV):
"Mark my words! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all. Again I declare to every man who lets himself be circumcised that he is obligated to obey the whole law. You who are trying to be justified by law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace."

All old jewish laws.
Question: You discredit the old Levitical Laws as being part of the Mosaic Law, which no longer applies. I'm fine with that.

However, many Christians today claim that homosexuality is a sin and that God considers it wrong. When asked for the Scriptural foundation for this, they will invariably cite Leviticus 18:22.

Quote from: Leviticus 18:22
Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.

Why is this verse still considered applicable, even though the rest of the Mosaic Law has been discarded?

TO be honest I don't know, I'm not a preacher, I only know what I'm taught. Consult google or a Church of God preacher.
