Bedford Level Experiment letter-writing campaign!
« on: November 17, 2009, 08:26:42 AM »
I'm sending a letter tomorrow to the Welney Parish Council -- the council in which the site of the Bedford Level Experiment is located -- requesting that they put up a small plaque on the bridge to commemorate the Bedford Level Experiment.  If any of you are willing, I'd appreciate it if you could write them as well asking that they place a plaque there.  I'll include a pre-written form letter for the interested-but-lazy.. although personally-written letters would probably be more effective. The address of the Welney Parish Council is:

Welney Parish Council
1 Chestnut Avenue, Welney
Wisbech
Cambs.
PE14 9RG

The form letter is here: Template for Welney Bedford Level Experiment Plaque Letter

And here's the letter I'm sending them in case anyone is interested..

I don't mean to sound argumentative, but what if they think your letter is a joke or prank?

Also, who is supposed to provide the funds for the small plaque?

Daniel did say that he'd provide it, so I suppose he'd pay for it himself.  It wouldn't be too expensive.

I'm sorry, I completely overlooked that paragraph.

It's possible.  If they think it's a joke, there's not much I can do about that, I'm afraid.  I included a couple of my business cards as well as one of those little build-it-yourself Flat Earth 'globes' I'm sending out to Friends of the Flat Earth.  So at very least they'll know I'm not a crank who just decided to type up a letter on a whim.   If I don't hear anything back, I'll follow up in a few weeks.  The worst that will happen is nothing.. and that's what will happen if I don't ask anyway.  It's worth a shot, I figure.

"The worst that will happen is nothing."

I think the worst that could happen is them repeating the experiments and finding that the earth is round, but to each their own.

I'm writing a letter too, FOR SCIENCE! I think that important events should be documented.

Has anyone gotten a response yet?
I saw a slight haze in the hotel bathroom this morning after I took a shower, have I discovered a new planet?

Just thought I would bring this up,

I take it none of you have heard of Alfred Russel Wallace??

Yes, they know all about Wallace and the resulting feud, but this really isn't the place to discuss the matter.  If you would like to discuss it more, make a thread in one of the discussion boards.

Nice FE dodge, no wonder you have 8000 odd posts.

I'm not an FE'er and this is not a debate forum.

You'd do well to listen. Take it elsewhere.

I humbly apologise for saturating your announcement section with a debate related post and have since deleted said post.

I took markjo and Lord Wilmore's advice and have taken my grievance elsewhere.

Good Day.
