Hi, new here, with a basic question.
« on: October 30, 2009, 07:54:14 AM »
I am new to the forum. After reading some of the arguments postulated on many threads, I became inquisitive but remain quite skeptical. Ultimately, my skepticism arises from one question... on what basis does one make the claim that the Earth is flat?

I am a physicist as well as an aerospace engineer. I am employed with NASA where I work on many projects including the Ares launch vehicles. I have always based my beliefs on science and reason. Throughout my experiences and my research, I have never come upon any circumstance that has caused me to question the Earth's spherical shape. But I am an open-minded individual and I ask this question in order to gain a better understanding of a topic that I find curious.

Use your own senses, then no one can influence your judgement.
Look out of the window, it looks flat.
My I.Q. is 85. Or was it 58?

Welcome. Stating that you are from NASA is an odd approach considering it is the majority opinion among FE'ers that NASA and similar programs are likely part of a conspiracy.

I am simply trying to start a discussion. I stated that I work for NASA because I felt that it would be relevant to any talk that may ensue. To accuse me as part of a conspiracy or simply to tell me to use my senses was not what I expect. I am giving the Flat Earth Society the benefit of the doubt and I want to learn more about it. I guess I felt you had some deep reasons for your beliefs and I was trying to understand what they were.

Blunt simplicity such as using my own senses is to imply that our mind and intelligence is unimportant. An opinion that I disagree with on so many levels.

No it doesn't. Look at that ship on the horizon.
Gayer doesn't live in an atmosphere of vaporised mustard like you appear to, based on your latest photo.

The foundation for FET is contained within its literature. A link can be found in my signature link.

Look out of the window, it looks flat.

No it doesn't.  It looks very hilly.  People can determine for themselves what the Earth looks like out their window.  They don't need you to tell them.
By eliminating all present contradicting possibilities you would arrive at the present truth. It's impossible to arrive at a future truth.

So when I go up to the top of Mt Evans here in Colorado and can see the curvature of the earth, I will trust that.
If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the precipitate.

look at 1.35 of the video. it will all make sense.
