tell me does this seem rational
« on: September 14, 2009, 10:02:45 PM »
Experiment
1, Buy a Compass. 2, buy aeroplane tickets that would hypethetically take you round the earth if it is round. 3 Keep an eye on your compass to ensure you are travelling in roughly the same direction consistantly. 4 See what Happens. if you find the edge then the earth is flat.
If you end up where you started its round.

Yes, it very much does seem rational.

Is this supposed to prove something here?

Sure, it sounds rational. However it also sounds like you're just going to travel east, west, or a derivative of one of those as the airlines are unable to fly south around the world because the airliners don't want to fly off the edge.

Make right turns all the time you're bound to wind up back where you started.

No Right turns just point in 1 direction for example west and keep on going no turns no philosophical mumbo jumbo

Yep, point west, and fly "around" the world and you'll fly in a giant circle, and return to where you started...

Simply I do not understand how you expect that this is going to prove that the Earth is round. To me it proves you have enough money to buy plane tickets and fly in a circle.

No mumbo jumbo involved.

If you turn west and then continue west it is only one turn dont even turn west just fly west straight west no turning just fly west in a straight line plus visit this link http://www.polar-quest.com/?SID=1&PID=2&TID=81

If you are following a compass to the "west" you're going to fly in a circle. True story, your compass is going to point towards the magnetic north pole.

As for the link, yes, I would love to go on a tour of the ice-wall. Do they have hot cocoa?

I believe we have a failure in communication.

Yet again you still have yet to prove that the flight/journey/adventure would go anywhere but in a circle.

I can see how this is confusing, but if you would read the F.A.Q. like I did you would understand a little more what I'm trying to say. (I hope)

i understand what you are saying however it still doesnt prove the world is flat either

If you are so sure the world is flat what is the purpose of us being told its round

That's a good question. I personally have an opinion on that matter.

However, it's easy to understand why people would believe that it's round. Smart people said so. Since they're smarter than the average person it was accepted as fact and people moved on with life.

It wasn't until someone decided to step up to this "belief" that we learned the truth. I'm sure you can find a digital copy of his original works in the F.A.Q. Earth Not a Globe.

Since he was fighting popular opinion he was scorned by the populace, and pretty much left to obscurity. It wasn't until the advent of "rocket technology" that people could actually make money from this belief that the Earth is round and hence the biggest taxation sink was created to help siphon off money and hide it in governmental programs in the United States under the auspices of "exploring space".

why doesnt the flat earth society raise the funds to enter space to find out the truth and not just debate the idea

Because it would cost billions of dollars to create a rocket powerful enough to get into space.

And once you're up there all you'll see is the perspective effect in play and we can see that here on Earth for free.

Would be cool to take that tour of the ice-wall though. Hmm vacation 2010 here I come.

ok can see your perspective as a very very very remote possibility, however until i can either experience space of visit the ice wall i will not know if the earth is flat or round. however my opinion is it is round as your opinion is that it is flat neither of us really know for sure as the same as neither of us know if we are the only individual that actually exists and everybody else is just our imagination.

Difference being, flying along a line of latitude in RE does not require the plane to roll (ie it can remain straight & level) whereas in FE it would have to be in a permanent roll (ie a permanent turn).

Pretty simple stuff really!

Well, pointing your aircraft west and then never referring back to your compass is a good way to get lost regardless of the shape of the earth.

However, it's besides the point when you consider that, because of the horrific distortion of landmasses as you travel towards the "ice wall", anyone flying east/west to anywhere from anywhere would run out of fuel and nose-dive into the ocean before getting anywhere near their destination. As has been pointed out on this site before, navigating via compass from the base of Australia to the base of South America would take six or seven days longer than expected if the flat earth model is to be trusted.

Of course, you can file this under "questions you will never get a serious answer to".

Yeah i've got a few of those questions in a thread, an no one has stepped up to them so far.  a flat earth in the way they propose would make it take much longer to get to certain places, and when most pilots will point out landmarks on the way to your destination i doubt that the pilot wouldn't know if he was being led another way...
